Ended up removing the stator completely and it looks like the black wire and white wire that goes to the points are both fairly cactus. The plastic coating is brittle and cracked.
Guessing that could be causing the erratic firing.
Ordered some new points and condensers though just to be sure...
Hi All,
I've just had my 74 Gt250 engine rebuilt and I'm having a few ignition issues.
The left cylinder seems to be working fine but the right only fires intermittently if at all. I pulled out the right spark plug and fired it up and noticed that rather than being one clean spark it looked...
Problem solved!!!
The trick to it (if anyone else has the same problem) is to shift the bike into top gear. Replace the pressure plates and press down on them and it will create enough friction to hold the inner hub in place.
Now to try and split the bloody crankcase, doesn't want to budge >:(
Hi All,
I am rebuilding my GT250 engine and I am a bit stuck. I have removed the clutch cover and the springs/plates etc but I can't for the life of me seem to remove the inner drum. The drum is held in by a large nut and tab washer (see picture below)
I have locked the engine but the inner...
My suzuki gt250 has a slow leak coming from the transmission oil plug and I can't figure out how to stop it.
I purchased a new fibrous gasket but the leak is still there.
Any suggestions?
Just drop your original brake line off at a brake specialist and ask them to make up a new one for you.
I did that the other day and an hour later had brand new brake lines for not much more than the cost of any I could find online
Eureka!!!
The entire left hand switch itself needed to be grounded. I have clubmans on there that mustn't allow it to ground properly. Once I touched the switchgear to the to the frame and pressed the button it worked :)
God I hate electricals
I checked the button with the test light (don't have a multimeter unfortunately). The there is power coming from the green wire to the button and when I push the button the light comes on. Must be a ground issue somewhere.
alrighty, hooked up the horn to the orange and to ground. Bit of tweaking of the rear screw and lo and behold, it honks so it isn't the horn. There is something amiss in the switch wiring I guess.
Is there any way to test if it's the button itself that's the issue?
If any other GT250 owners can tell me how theirs are wired i will be forever grateful, it's the last niggling issue before I can get it registered and enjoy it :)
I'm down to my last two items that I need to fix before I can get my bike roadworthy but I can't for the life of me figure it out.
My rear turn signals both work fine but the front two are giving me nada.
The only thing I can think of is that I replaced the headlight ears with some universal...
Sorry, been really slack in updating this page.
Got married and moved house over the last couple of months so my priorities have been a bit askew haha.
She's almost ready to register now and looks pretty much like this (took this a couple of months ago but looks wise not much has changed)...
My gt250 was running fine the other day after replacing the plugs (oil pump settings were incorrect and engine was flooded) but then yesterday it was starting and revving but would bog down and die if I let off the throttle.
I checked the haynes manual and it said fuel is the cause.
I pulled...
