Robb, Thanks for the input but my bike is a sohc. Charging system is a little different. DJElliot, I trickle charge the batt and it holds a charge. Been riding the bike @ 30 miles a charge. Not great for the batt but hey.. I could try to find another... but i don't think that's the issue...

the 70 is a sandcast model, parts are much harder to find and more expensive. i'd go with the 74.

Sounds like some adjustment is needed. Does it disengage the motor? With no resistance, i doubt it. Is it the correct length, check it against your old one.

That's what i did. It's low and firm....

Solder and heat shrink. By and far the best and with a little practice really easy. Just be sure to 'tin' each wire before joining them, and in some cases make sure your shrink tube is on one wire before you solder together.

By 'other issues' you mean? And could it be possible that it was just a faulty gasket? When i had my Sprite motor built 2 head gaskets failed before the third one stuck. That motor was built by a very competent mechanic.

As it turns out the head was ok. We stripped it down and found the head gasket blown right at an oil galley. That would explain the copius amount of oil out the pipe. Since we are in there, ordered up a mild cam from dynoman, new valve springs, seals, guides gaskets etc and we should be on...
