I surrender! This basket case was just too much. I was not confident in rebuilding the engine, and no one wanted to tackle the project. So back to the drawing board, I searched and searched for months till I found Rose. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=28253.new#new

My plans? Black Wheels, Black Side Covers and Tank with some gold accents, shorten the seat and frame, ditch the rear fender, clip on bars, bigger headlight, some smaller blinkers and some header wrap for good measure.

She's a 1970 CB450 that was built up to be ridden by the previous owners brother. After a year of putting it together he gave up. He could not solve the cutting out issue. After changing coils, batteries, points, condensers. He gave up. I picked it up for $900 with a spare engine and an ass load...

Motivated! Im back. Spring is going to be here before I know it, so I got my ass in gear and got the end of the frame shortened up. Also dropped the engine off to be rebuilt. Time to get the ball rolling. Used some 1.00 - .095 DOM for the rear of the frame and had my boss lay down some Tig...

Yeah, I found a magical product called evapo-rust.... The name says it all, and it delivers. I am trying; emphasis on "trying" to build this thing on a $2500 budget including the $300 for the bike. I figure saving the spokes will save me $200. I took a lot of photos of the pattern before I...

PB Blaster had a cigarette then went to work. Used a flat head on the rim side to break them free, for the tough ones, I used a tiny open end to break it loose from the spoke side. After they were loose, to save time, I used a drill on low speed to pull them all. Left them in evapo-rust for 48...

Got some work done late last night, the heat was too much to try and get anything done during the day, so my roommate and I worked till about 3AM on each of our bikes. Mine is now completely stripped. Just a pile of parts. We got the engine out of his 72' 500 Four he just picked up.

You have been very helpful... I am trying to decide if this is a job I can tackle? Is the bottom end a PITA to pull apart to have the cases blasted?

The cylinder walls are butter, the top of the left side piston has a small dent in it... looks like someone shoved something through the spark plug hole to try and unlock this engine... I got this stuff called Evapo-Rust, HOLY HELL... You let that stuff soak, them wipe away the remaining rust...

Underneath the dirt on the pistions? I know one of them is scared.... Can that be fixed or should it be replaced?

So guys, with new pistons, rings and a cylinder hone will I be in good shape? The roughness you can see in the jugs is flaking off just by gentle rubbing it with my finger.

SHE'S FREE@@()($!_)#)*(@(($@_)!) Got the pistons out of the jugs evenly, crank rolls smooooooooth. Cylinders are smoooooth, only needs some honing... Thank you PB Blaster, the remaining rust just flaked off.
