I have always wanted a bike and loved the nostalgia of a cafe racer. I got married in October 2012. My wife bought me a 1972 Honda CL350 with a 1969 CL350 parts bike as her wedding gift to me. I planned on working on it though the winter this past year and am now finally getting around to it in March 2013. The 1972 runs and drove when I got it. I have never blogged before but thought this was a good way to start. I have restored and modified alot of cars but never a bike. I figure I can figure it out as I go.
Stripped down the bike and now am starting form the bare frame.
Plans:
Rear tube frame.
Custom rear faring
Custom leather seat
New tank
Clubman Handlbars
New rear sets
Rear shocks
Leds where I can
Smaller hidden battery
Larger tires
2 into 1 exhaust
Who knows what next.
Bought a larger tank from a 1974 CB360 with petcock of Craigslist from a great guy that had a wealth of information with over 40 years experience with these bikes. I think the larger tank looks alot better.
There are alot of 350s around here, looks like you have an extremely nice starting point. Your exhaust there is a rare commodity, don't cut it up and throw it around. If you dont want to leave it and want more cafe high pipes trade someone for their rusted set +$ for yours or sell yours out right.
The worst part of the CL is that you cant get your left side cover off without removing the top exhaust pipe which really is a pita.
Thats exactly what my intent was. I found a great yoshimura exhaust pipe that looks alot like the picture above when I was at the local auto salvage yard today. Paid only $23 for it with the headers. Plan to cut the header pipes apart and use it to build my own. i do want to wrap it with black exhaust wrap though.
Cleaned up the front forks. Was not planning on keeping any chrome but the headlight ears cleaned up so nice that I think I will keep some here and there.
