Re: 1973 cb500 build

So I discovered that there was another spacer inside the hub and I pretty much ruined it with the screwdriver and maul that I was using yesterday. I hope I can either grind down the burs and smooth it out to reuse it, or possibly find a new one. Tell me what you guys think. It's part #4 in the schematic

Considering its part of the only thing making contact with the road I would say replace it :)
yeah that's what I was thinking but then I was also thinking that it might not have to be replaced because it's part of the inner race and doesn't rotate on the axle. Gonna be hard to find a replacement

Shouldn't be hard at all.
well after looking around for a while it's proving pretty hard. Most people don't sell the parts inside the hub because no one takes them apart and then parts it out. They are only selling them as a whole hub and I don't feel like paying the money if I can figure something else out. Someone on SOCH4 posted a pdf of the dimensions so I might just lathe one out myself at school and learn something in the process. I also took a dremel with a sanding wheel to the inside of the buggered up one and it slides on the axle smooth as butter so I'll weigh the options

If you can build one on the lathe go for it. I have done that several times when it comes to parts I don't want to buy...but putting a busted up part back in your wheel isn't very smart. A lot can go bad real quick. It's worth taking the time or spending the money.

How much was it?
20 bucks. It comes with the other spacer that I don't need but it's still worth the price. Depending on how well mine turns out I will decide what to do

I have a couple of those sitting in my basement from another bike.. I can check dimensions.. you might need to modify it a little bit but it could get you in the neighborhood.

Re: 1973 cb500 build

So I made some progress. Lunch wasn't long enough to finish it

Pretty simple part...no tapers so that is nioce.
there are actually some tapers on it but I'll have the shop teacher help me with those

Re: 1973 cb500 build

Picked up the seat today. I can't say I love it but I can't say I hate it. The top is a little more rounded than I wanted and it's a little too tall. I'll finish the bike and then maybe it will grow on me a little more
