1974 CB360 - (Properly Named) The Sterilizer (Updated 3/2/10)

I was able to work on the bike some more last night.

I reassembled my workbench and work area,
Sanded the seat,
Painted the seat flat black (Took the plunge  ),
Painted the primed rim/hub/spokes flat black,
Masked off from the nipples to the hub, going to hit JUST the rim with super glossy black this evening. Should prove to be a good look. ;D

Hoping to get at it again tonight and get some more done. Looks like we've got some warmth coming our way so I can finish some projects up!

I'll post pictures later this evening.

nice work. I came late to this thread, but could I back you up a bit and get some more info on those fantastic gauge faces? What's the process, and what do you end up with? Is it a vinyl overlay, or complete (plastic? metal?) replacement? I already have EPS artwork for my model (cb900), so would you be able to work with that?

cheers

Hey BikeBoy,
The final product is a sticker. The style that I used on mine is actually a foil-like metal that is adhesive backed and printed on to offer an "anodized" finish. I am able to make solid color stickers, translucent stickers, anything really!

Here are the only pictures I was able to snap...and they're REALLY crappy!

I did paint my rim last night, so hopefully I'll be able to snap a decent pic of that this evening.
I was not able to completely unmask it last night.

Thanks again, more to come!

look for the whole slide, with diaphragms in good condition. you can find those cheaper than buying new diaphragms.

buying diaphragms is iffy. you need a lathe to get the old one off. this can damage the slide.

also, how bad are the ones that you have? if they aren't all dried out, you can fix small holes in them.

Damn, any man that would pass off a woman who can speak like this needs his head checked! I love it when a woman talks gearhead! And know her shit too!

hahahaha "talk motorcycles to me, baby"

^^^ thats what I'm saying. It's hot. What is wrong with the diaphragm < why does that spelling not look right to me. Might be the natty. Either way if the diaphragm needs to be replaced you should look for a set of carbs off of ebay and go from there. You should be able to buy one carb for like 20-40 bucks. love the gauges keep it up.

Hey guys (and girl!)
Thanks for the pointers.
The diaphragm is completely nonexistent. The only way I can find the diaphragm is with the slide, etc. all included. I believe that's the reason for such a high price. I haven't found anywhere that just sells the rubber, if I even was interested in purchasing that separately.

Didn't get much done this weekend, but did happen to stumble across the best $7 motorcycle purchase I've ever spent.
I'll keep you posted with pics ;D

Here is the motorcycle related purchase I mentioned earlier:

Excuse the sad cell phone picture...I'll get the real camera fired up one of these days and snap some up-to-date pics of everything.

Anyways, I was at a flea market in Tulsa on Saturday and stumbled across this. I nearly missed it, but once I saw it I knew I would buy it whether it fit or not, no matter the condition. I spent a whopping $7 on it.
I've been on a budget search for an old 3/4 for quite awhile, and one in this condition goes for a lot...Plus it fits me perfectly!

It had a few knicks when I got it, so over the course of Saturday and Sunday I spent a few minutes wetsanding, then buffing and polishing. I've got it even far shinier than in the photo here.

The interior is perfect besides one 3/4" rip on the lower cheek/ear pad, which I'll fix within the next couple days or so.

I'll be posting in the helmet thread with more detailed pics...I'm excited about it!!!

My $3 Tractor tail light:

They sell them in amber, as well. So I'll be headed back to the little tractor shop in town to pick up some "Turn Signals" :)

My brothers, my parts bike (Going to eventually be turned into a second cafe ;) ), and my bike.

That's all for now...Stay posted!

Looking good. That taillight is cool is it dual filament? I saw another bike that the guy used one of those and frenched it in looked cool as hell. That helmet reminds me of the one I used to have for riding my go kart back when I was six. I hated that thing wanted a cool full face. Now I wish i still had that helmet. Funny how shit like that goes full circle.

Overall looking nice, but that air filter is insane. I like the tractor lights too. I wish I could find one like that for three bones.
