hey, my name is zoltan, I'm 21 and this is my 1974 honda cl360 build log and 74 kz400 build log.

I had to get the bike with my 4 door car haha... Got a ton of second glances on the long island expressway..

Guy I got it from let the cl360 go for pretty cheap, he thought there was a clutch issue and the whole kickstart mechanism must've been busted, but he had the clutch way tight, adjusted it, kicked over first try..

Undergoing electrolysis to remove the heavily rusted inside of the tank

Will keep this updated.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

I'm on board.

Also, I notice your inspiration bike is running with the CB headers. If you plan to sell the CL headers, please let me know as I'm looking for set.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

I've been a fan of that "inspiration bike" since I first saw it, but still can't figure out how you can run that kind of clearance on the back tire. Is that for showin' or goin'?

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

@Sonreir: to be honest, I haven't decided yet. Put them back on and I'm sorta iffy, but I'll definitely let you know.

@Boondoggle: I've seen alternative pics of that bike off roading so, definitely for goin haha

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

I'll be watching. I bought my wife a 360 a while back and tried to talk her into letting me copy that same inspiration bike but apparently her taste isn't as refined as yours and mine, so she had other plans.

Well, then get it goin'! ;D

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

So started to strip the bike apart. Originally wanted to get it going 100% before hand but I see no other option. First day, it kicked over and started after readjusting the clutch (before the kickstart wasn't engaging). But since then, for the life of me haven't been able to get it started, cleaned the carbs (does anyone have the screw settings for a CL360, I wasn't sure if they were the same as the cb360 because of the different exhausts and what not).

Then on top of it after messing around with the handlebars and realizing the wires go through them so at the moment can't currently exchange them with my new handlebars, I messed up the starter switch... so that's not working either. :'(

Anyone have a simplified diagram for kickstart only? Thanks in advance.

stripped the tank, probably could've sold it on ebay for a pretty penny, but oh well.

ripping the beast apart..

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Props to you, would have never thought of moving a bike inside a car 8)

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Yeah, I was pretty proud that I got it home.

Figured out why my start button wasn't working, the chain was completely off from the starter. No idea how that happened.
Just bought a new headlight, ignition (one that you can't hopefully use anything to turn with) new mini speedo, speedo mount, new fork covers, new bearings, and new balloon grips.

Continue to strip the bike down, going to give it a good cleaning. Don't think I am going to paint the frame and engine this time around. ATM don't have the best storage for the bike and wouldn't want to ruin such a time consuming paint job.

That's just for show, even sitting on it will probably stop the wheel turning (unless shocks are seized?)

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

I can't find the pic of the guy riding that bike anymore.

Anyways I did some grade B polishing some parts: Any suggestions on an after coat after the polish? Noticed a couple days later some slight yet easily removable oxidation marks showed up where I had polished..

Have been using a hacksaw and files to remove tabs *old school* a grinder would be awesome though.

Still just waiting for parts from dime city cycles and OBB, taking a little too long too process. One box got shipped out today. Ordering a 4.0x18 wheel for the back, swapping the 3.5 to the front (its in good shape).

So hopefully once I get back from Maine this coming week (while I'm there also going to try and get a title for my bike) I'll have a bunch of parts to continue with this bike.

Officially decided that I'm going to wait till winter or next year to powder coat the frame.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Got all the parts in the mail. Having trouble starting, would the removal of the headlight and its its wires/ the grounds that were on the bolts that bolted to the speedo/ tacho effect whether the electric starter would work or not?

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Unless those rear shocks are welded up solid. That bike would bottom out simply by sitting on it.

Crazypj and sonrier will both tell you. It would ride like shit without a fork brace/fender and the exhaust is way to short to run decent.
Besides the fact I am sure it doesnt have a chance to run decent w those pods.

sure is cool looking in the pic...to bad he cant run it or ride it. Looks like the only good idea he had was the battery location, toolbox mounts.

wango has coated his polished aluminum in "sharkhide". But Im not sure hes run it enough yet to see if its gonna work out w the heat.

OH and welcome Zoltan.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

The length of those exhausts are OK. Not great, but OK. I certainly wouldn't go any shorter.

Look at the length of the exhaust on the RC166:

And that thing revs up to 18K or so.

Compared to the stock size it is.
My 4.50-18 was HUGE...

Then PJ whipped out his 4.60-18 and all the girls ran away screaming.

I feel like I'm being left out, now. I'm getting tire size envy.

Dont, I lost the fatty and my gas mileage doubled once I installed the 110-18 avon and I think the 360 is a little quicker off the line now and handles like a dream.
