1974 CL360 & KZ400

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Yep, he said wheel but mean tyre, it's always a problem with noobs getting terminology wrong. At least he didn't say rims when he meant tyre's ;D
I also fitted wider rims before I fitted fatties, it's really sandy here so I thought floatation tyre's may help? ;)

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

It's a learning cliff (not a curve ;D )
You'll 'get up to speed' pretty quick then start correcting the 'new' noobs ;)

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Haha, yes hopefully.

So, put this new headlight on to take a look, ultimately I want a closer fit, but it'll due for now.

So, I'm in a big hole with this project. The electrical is a complete mess. I don't even know where to start...
The jumble started with me removing the battery box, then the headlight, removal of the speedo/tach, and the supposed broken electric starter. Definitely should've labeled everything, but too late..
I'm gonna have to get some outside help, but don't really know anyone with that how-to around here. If anyone can give me any basic starters for the electric, it honestly just seems like nothing is working at all. (and yes the battery is charged)...
Does the headlight have to be correctly wired up for the electrics to work properly? such as the starter and what not.. or are those separate circuits

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Headlight is on different circuit
There are plenty of basic wiring diagrams for 360, or, if you get stuck, Sonrier has been building 360 wiring harnesses, shoot him a PM

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Yup well damn, didn't wanna do it, but I guess you gotta learn at some point. Tearing the harness out now!

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

here ya go. scroll down the page to find the electrics post w diagrams.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

I tried messing around with the harness but just could not get it operational again. It seems the PO rewired somethings and basically any use of a diagram is impossible for me. Therefore I traded my CL headers for a modern simple harness from Sonreir. Opting for a passenger able bike so the cb360 pipes are a better fit for me, those should be in from ebay soon too :D.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

waiting for the wire harness from sonreir, hopefully it's in next week, trying to get my license before august 23rd (when I go back to college) :D.
I mounted the speedo, new front break clamp, new throttle grip, I have the custom new starter/kill switch coming with the harness, it's a tiny thing from DCC.
I also just placed the CB360 headers to get a look what It will look like.

**Does anyone know what the pieces are in between the headers and headers clamp are called, the things that put resistance on the headers so they stay in place/ can be tightened. Seems mine went missing.

I also don't think I'm going to put a rear loop on the frame, I will take a little more length of the back and then have bullet taillights coming out of each end, I think that would like nice with the fender. I am also making a mud guard out of the fender and cutting half the stock plastic one and placing it off the fender, which will fit right into place.

p.s. don't make fun of the headlight mount, definitely not permanent haha

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

also need to get rid of that old stock seat pin holder on the back of the frame, haven't manned up and hack sawed it off yet. (no grinder or any power tools haha)

Doing a search on eBay for "honda 360 exhaust collar" usually turns up a few results. The part number is 1"8233-MC8-000". You may still be able to get them through the dealership... should be less than $10 each.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

I know I have a set as I didn't use them on the system I made, not sure where they are offhand though

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Dude, consult w the experts but I am thinking you need a hoop or some kind of added support back there especially now that you cut the other support in half. Seems to me she could get alot of weird kinda twisty rear wheel handling shit happening w the frame like that. I dont have a hoop on mine but the support you cut is intact and I welded in another flat stock support hidden under my seat directly between the shock mounts.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Personally I would weld something in there, I don't see any point modifying anything if you can't push it to it's limits now and again
Even stock the rear frame flexes a little

People grind this off all the time, this is usually cut off entirely. Thats the brace that sorta puts the hump in the seat, which is behind the shocks. People generally cut that entire section of the frame off just behind the rear shocks, and then make the decision to put a loop on or not. I think you have what brace I cut mixed up.. but if you didn't, there still is some support with the fender there obviously not as much as there was.. I would like to eventually weld something but I don't have access to a welder nor know anyone who could do it.. it's not a matter of me just not doing it or being lazy haha

Find those and make a tach plug for me, plz :}?

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

Had a quick look last night, not where I thought they would be :-[
I'll be having a try at making some parts next week, wife goes nuts if I even walk past the garage so I'll wait until she's in work ;)
Not sure if I'll be able to get stuff right, still taking some heavy duty painkillers multiple times a day (Tramadol)

That decision is generally based on whether or not one minds if the rear end flexes like crazy. That loop serves a structural purpose.

I apologize, You are right, thats exactly what people do. You have everything completely under control. I am just getting old and get stuck in my ways. And I have only had my bike for 2 1/2 years. Alot of guys here have decades of experience. The hoop is clearly an after thought. Just look at Rich Ards "Honda", It doesnt seem to have any support at all and he gets along just fine. Please continue w the build. I'll just sit here quietly and try to think before I speak.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat

I don't have a rear hoop because i don't have a subframe that's supporting two shocks - the purpose of a member tying the two sides together is to keep the support subframe from flexing side to side.
