1975 CB400F Project "Replacement Girlfriend"

now that you have that open maybe you should consider this:

at least on my bike neutral is kind of elusive sometimes.

Thanks guys

Justin,
On my frame where the back side of the engine bolts in the bolt has threads on both ends and is about 2" longer than the frame mount points so it sticks out.
Is this normal or did I somehow find the wrong bolt in my pile of parts?

I believe that your footpegs will slide over the extended part of that bolt, sir.

That my friend had not even occurred to me! Genius I tell you!

Loving this build man. I had a cb350f that was amazing. Only the 400 could be better. Keep it up, this bike is going to look great.

I hope it runs as well as it looks. Thanks for the tip on Eastwood 2 pack engine paint.

Swan I hope so too!

Anyone know where to get a dowel for the oil pump? One of the two small ones is missing from my pump, not sure how big of a deal that is but it doesnt seem to be available

What do the screws look like? Set screws? I know there are set screws for the head near the intake inlet... I haven't gotten that far up on my reassembly on mine so I dont know yet. But I don't remember any screws when taking the rockers off..

Yeah I have decided thats not where they go haha, the screws in the diagram are for setting rocker clearance.

I really dont know where they came from, but you know, i dont think I missed anything so fingers crossed!

They are about 1cm long with a phillips head and all have a black nut with them. They were in the bag labeled "rockers" by the PO (doesnt mean they came from there ::) )

You absolutely need those dowels with proper o-rings in order for your pump to work correctly! Honda should still sell both.

Your screws do not go in the rocker train and maybe the ones found on the cylinder head inlet ports. When removed, tubes for carb synchronizer go in the holes.

AHa That's probably it

And the dowel wasn't available from bike bandit ill have to check elsewhere I ordered the orings already

It's the Eastwood two part urethane engine paint.
It was about 50 bucks for a pint and a can of hardener which was a hard pill to swallow when I bought it but with how little I've used it turns out to be significantly cheaper that rattle cans. It would have taken at least 4 cans and that's 28 bucks right there, and I have at least 10-15 more engines left in my pint haha.

where can you get your hands on this paint? engine looks unreal dude, nice job!

You gotta know a guy.....

Nah just go to Eastwood.com and search engine paint

Thanks man glad to see my works being appreciated

A little more powder work before I can start final assembly.
My battery tray came out awesome!

The clutch cover cover thing.......not so much......should have baked it first to let all that shit come out BEFORE coating it. Damn, thats going to be fun to blast off. Thats my first BAD powdered part. Ive had a few that have a bubble or three but this one looks like dog shit.

After months if toil this engine is finally assembled for the first time in my hands!

Buying an engine disassembled sucks, especially when you have never so much as changed the oil on a 4 cylinder before. So hopefully I didn't ignore any parts haha.

She's a beauty

It worked a treat! and sure as hell beats sliding the damn thing around on the workbench all day

I bought a load of square tubing by mistake and thinking if welding up an engine stand with some of it.

Anyone got some pointers on what to do before I go it alone?

If I were making another, I would make the front tubes a little higher, otherwise it worked perfectly.

Cut 4 8" pieces (20cm  ), two cross bars and a middle support and drill a hole as close to the top of the 4 pieces as you can (1 cm down or so)

Easy Peasy

Oh, What i did to set it up perfect was I went ahead and bolted the 4 legs to the engine and then welded to the bottom pieces.

Im sure someone has better advice than me ;D
But that one took about 15 minutes to make and lasted through the engine build so im happy! ;D
