Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 7/13 ALL FINISHED FOR NOW!!!!! WOW WOW)
Updaaaaaaate!
I decided to re-work my dash quite a bit. I didn't like the small LED lights and thought they looked out of place. I surfed through (seemingly) 100,000 listings on eBay looking at all sorts of indicator lights. I found the ones you'll see below with a nice chrome ring around the edges that had a more OEM look to them. For some reason, my LED turn-signal light on my first setup quit working, and instead of messing around with resistors and re-doing that harness, I just started from scratch.
Also, I took apart the gauges, stripped the paint, powdercoated the surrounds, polished the casings, re-did the faces, and re-painted the needles. The paint on the needle tips is New Formula Red (from an S2000) as I had some touch up paint left over.
Old gauge faces, chipped paint on cases, etc.
Gotta cut chrome trim ring which holds the two halves together to get to the guts of the gauges.
Pop the needles off (I grabbed the chrome circle with needlenose pliers and pulled gently). Repaint the tips if you want to. Before on the right, after (NFR) on the left.
New gauge faces in place.
Here you can see the powdercoated casings. The toughest part of this whole job is re-installing the chrome ring that holds the two halves together. I used JB Weld and a hose clamp and let it sit for 24 hours. Worked really well.
Switching gears, I got rid of the old small LED indicator lights and picked up these bigger indicator lights and redid all of the wiring with all new bullet connectors soldered into the OEM harness.
Teaser!
And here are the gauges and dash re-installed on the bike!!! I LOVE how it turned out. The gauge casings and the dash are both powdercoated the same semi-gloss black and are a perfect match.
WOW!
Front view!
And here is a short YouTube vid showing the lights working perfect.
