1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 10/1 S2000 START BUTTON AND VIDEO!!!)

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 6/10 Custom Decals!!!!)

Well, I was going to be painting all of this week, but my clutch cable snapped right before I was going to leave for Cars and Coffee on Saturday morning, so that became priority #1 to repair. I finished that repair up last night and then wanted to get to work on wiring up the dash. Im still waiting on my replacement starter solenoid to arrive before I can wire up the engine start button. I went and bought a heat-shrink kit so I could make all nice connections and a nice mini-harness for the dash. I snipped all the OEM wires off the idiot lights at the base and splices them to the LED wires so I could use the OEM connectors.

There wasn't shrink wrap big enough to fit around the stalk for the starter button, so I picked up some Loctite self-locking wrap. It's weather proof apparently, and sticks to itself without being sticky to anything else. Looks like shrink wrap a bit in the final product. Time will tell how it holds up.

The neutral/brights lights were easy to wire up, but the turn signal was another story. Since my new indicator light is LED and the turn signals are filament bulbs, I had to splice the + wire to have a second connection and wire in inline diodes. Prior to the diodes, the indicator would only work for one side signal.

Here's my crude diagram:

Double check which side goes where:

And here it is!

For some reason, the brights indicator is A LOT brighter, but it'll rarely be on, so it's not a huge issue. Ill start stripping my tank down tomorrow to get it ready for paint. Weeee!

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 6/11 dash wired!!!!)

Here is the update Ive been the most excited to post! Last night my friend and I worked from 6:00PM - 1:45AM getting the paint on the bike laid down. It was a long process but totally worth it! All of the decals were custom made based on the 1974-1976 Honda CB400F SuperSport decals, with slight changes. The stripes were painted on. The only thing left to do is wetsand the clear to get rid of the bumps over the vinyls/stripes and re-clear it two more times.

Spackle coat on tank. Do this and then lightly sand it all off and it'll show you your high/low spots super easy. The tank was originally setup with screw-on emblems. We filled over the original emblem holders and smoothed out the entire tank.

Spraying on the sealer.

First color coat!!!

Rough placement of the tank main stripe. We got the center stripe perfect and based all the others ones off of the center stripe.

Finally placing the decals! You can really get an idea what it's going to look like at this point in time.

Decals on!

The sidecover decals were tricky because my vinyl guy couldn't find the original font used on the CB400F anywhere, so he hand drew these and went from there.

All taped off and ready for stripes! Gold stripes are up first!

Laying down the gold!

Now on to the white stripe!

This next step I was like a kid at Christmas. Unwrapping all of the tape/paper and seeing how everything turned out was amazing! The matte blue looked pretty sick but it needed some clear, so we obliged...

This tank is pornography

That's all for now, folks. Next big modification is the 380 engine build. Stay tuned in!!!

Neat transfers, look good on paint
I like the 380 style ;)

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 6/21 CUSTOM PAINT JOB!!!!!!)

I do, too. In fact, Im in love with how subtle it is. I wanted something that NO ONE would notice wasn't stock unless you're familiar with the 1970's Honda lineup. Granted, if I really wanted to copy OEM, I wouldnt have put stripes on it, but they look sick so I did. lol

Honda missed out on a neat paint scheme obviously....Nice!

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 6/21 CUSTOM PAINT JOB!!!!!!)

Matt,

That looks amazing. can't wait to see it at Bikes and Beer, or Fuel for cars and coffee.

I "HATE" the maroon/red color on the new GS1100. I need to talk to your buddy on some pricing once I get all the origional mock up, clean up crap done. I could do it myself...but if his prices are reasonable he does nice work.

His pricing is reasonable for sure! We can talk at BnB or C&C next week (or tomorrow if you'll be down at FUEL). Let me know the parts/color you're looking at getting painted and Ill touch base with him.

I was behind the door the entire time he was painting. I told him to wear a respirator but that's his call I suppose.

Re: 1976 Honda CB360T - Build Thread (Update 6/26 New Tires/Fender!!!!!!)

Today was a busy day on the motorcycle! I got her some brand new Avon Roadrider tires, chopped the rear fender, removed the taillight, individually polished ALL of the spokes. That spoke polishing was miserable. :laugh1: Im very very pleased with how the fender turned out. I used some extra chrome trim molding to cover up the cut marks and you can hardly even tell it's been modified. Success.

Chopped fender:

The amount I removed!

Rear View:

Idea of how it'll look with the seat installed. The seat is just resting on the bike in these pics:

New tires!
