1976 Honda cj 360

Got my new grips and end mirrors installed! Went pretty well. Also got wiring 95% done minus the points. I still have the valve cover off after retiming the shafts. When I get that back on I will get the points in and then I think it will be time to see if this old girl will fire. I hope my buddy trek will be there for the moment of glory!

Good luck getting her to fire first try.

I started mine for the first time on Sunday... I've got some work to do on it after my xs is complete.

Looking at pics of cam again on desktop, (much bigger screen), looks to me like the tappets have been running a bit tight?
Make sure you set them at 0.002" inlet and 0.003" exhaust. You'll have to bend feeler into a 'J' shape

Busy night! Got the valve cover back on. Also got the new shorty muffler on. Looks pretty good! I ordered the double baffle cause I think it would have been to loud without it. I also had a problem with the new grips and mirrors. I used grease instead of an oil to lube the throttle and the end mirror rubs on the throttle so I didn't have the snap back I wanted. So I cleaned all the grease and re lubed with oil. Then I put this washer in between the mirror and the end of the grip. I think it worked well!

You might want to flip these over as they will be visible without moving your arm.

So got the mirrors flipped around. Thanks for the suggestion. Also got all the electric done. Mounted new points , just need to adjust them. Here's a pic of the bike when I got it. Man has it come a long ways. Getting close to firing her. Maybe Sunday or Monday. Wish me luck!

What about loctite 515 intead of loctite 518 for sealing the head back up. I have 515 readily available and the operating temperatures are the same. Or should I stop by autozone and pick up some permatex?

DO NOT USE PERMATEX!
that's the rtv shit that will destroy your engine, not only can it break off on the inside, it actually expands when it gets saturated with gas or oil
loctite 515 looks to be the same system as 518 so should be ok

I think I got my bike ready for a longer test ride this afternoon. if your up for a visit, I may ride over. I can bring the vac gauges and comp tester with me.

You, are having entirely too much fun 8)

Well it's been a while I've been busy with work but I have the new levers on and had to bend the headlight bracket so the handlebars could go forward not to hit the tank

Engine looks nice, tank needs doing now. Oh, fit a fork brace, front end is too flimsy to run without one

What kind of fork brace and where?

Chris

You can get a Tarozzi fork brace... (Costs $ and no time) You can chop the brace out of your fender... (Free, but takes some ingenuity to make look good)

I see wasn't sure what you guys were talking about. The fender is going back on.
