1st time build-1980 Suzuki GS750 Cafe

Well I think I'm done for this season with the bike so thanks to everyone that helped. I think I will run with the bare tank this year and paint everything black over the winter. SOme of the items I would like to work on would be a RF garage door opener, maybe rig up some type of small gas guage and possibly a 12v outlet for GPS/iphone. At least it's running even though I'm still having a tough time putting into 2nd gear until it warms up. Here's the latest pic.

Looks pretty clean.

You'll have a pretty tough time adding a fuel meter if there wasn't one equipped stock. The sending unit in the tank is the tough part..... however I do recall seeing aftermarket gas caps for CB750's (?) that had a fuel gauge built in.

And as far as the 2nd gear issues, I'd look into the clutch system or maybe even the engine oil.

that is a great looking bike !!
however the shifting into second gear being tough has nothing to do with the clutch or oil, something is binding in the mechanism
youshould be able to shift smoothly and easily without using the clutch on almost any motorcycle built since 1960 or so and type of oil will only make a very slight diff in feel if any at all

XB, Clay said he has a tough time getting into 2nd until it warms up. While it could be something physically binding up, an issue with the clutch is more likely IMO (especially since the bike was recently rebuilt and put back on the road).

but all you have to do is barely quickly roll off the throttle fer a second and snickclick the next gears it should go like butter without the clutch
but yeah if a guy is relying on the clutch and doesn't have the rpm/load right then he doesn't know how to shift and that is a diff problem :)
