360 swiftly

Andoor... This has to be one of my favourite bikes i have seen, definatly gives me a lot of inspiration for my little 360. What rear shocks are you running? i want to get my bike as low as possible without rubbing the tire. Also i was thinking about running vm32's on my 360 and was wondering everyones thoughts on this??

Set floats lower to richen up mid-range.
That shuts the fuel off later so it's higher in the jets

xwolf- Thanks for the kind words I am glad my bike is inspiring to others. I was definitely inspired by many of the bikes on DTT. The rear shocks that I am running are just the stockers with painted springs. As for the carbs I have read around that VM32’s are too big for our engines, I run VM30’s. Just to give you a heads up I spent this entire season and at least a $100 (jets/needles) to try and get my carbs tuned right. I have a rideable bike, but it is still not where I would like it. Changing the carbs takes a lot of work. Be ready for it!!

I have learned my lesson. My new project bike is keeping the stock airbox and carbs!

PJ- Thanks for the clarification!

Sorry to say, but I think my tuning is at an end for this season. We already had our first snowstorm, and the weather is getting cold. My skinny ass has no body fat to keep me warm in this weather!
I think part of my hesitation problems was a slipping clutch so a new one is on the schedule for the winter. I will pick up again with the carb tuning in a few months.

Stay tuned to my katana project. It’s starting to pick up some speed…

thanks mate, great help. i will definatly look at buying some vm30's. Do you know what size the fork tubes are? i want to order some clip ons but need to get the right size

Also what clip ons are they? I'm struggling to find a nice set of 33mm so I'm thinking maybe shim my 35mm vortex clip ons to suit

Xwolf: (I don't normally shill my work directly)
I can make you a set of clip-on blocks for way less than the vortex pieces no matter where you buy them. I'd be more than happy to help out....

Hi Andoor,

Nice bike,
In planning for my new project this is what I gathered. Hopefully it will help you out.

This setup is based on;
Average elevation is 131.1 feet above sea level and the Mean Elevation for the state is 500 feet above sea level. So you may want to make adjustments according to your elevation.

Main Jet #200
Pilot Jet #25
Jet Needle 6F4
Needle Jet P5

Had my personal (retired) tool and die maker help me make the spacer for my master cylinder.

There is a lot of crap going on here in a very small area!

Anyone know a good place where I could get a custom 1 piece brake line made??? I am not to happy about all the extra line jammed in the mess of wires and cables behind the headlight.

Somehow I just discovered this build. Top notch, everything is perfect. I thought I was the only one who had to space the master cyl away from the bars. Any chances more than one spacer was made? I'd pay for one! Mine is a part of the old bars and is pretty lame. Trying my hand soon at a seat like that...sooooo nice. Great work!

Clutch- sorry only made one :(

sbaugz- It is duplicolor ceramic engine enamel. The paint doesn't have a lot of body so you have to make sure what you are painting is really smooth, but the durability is better than any other spray paint I have used. I am painting the frame on my next project bike with the stuff.

Love what you've done with the bike. May I ask what blinkers and taillight you're running?

Re: 360 swiftly

Ood- The taillight is a LED version of the classic lucas style light. I got it off ebay, don't remember the seller. The turns are mini arrowheads tons of companies sell them I think mine are bikemaster.

Got some new winter upgrades. I was tired of the sticking front brake and leaking master cylinder, so I got a new one piece line for slingshot cycles and got a new master from mikesXS. Also took the caliper apart again and cleaned it all up.

I wanted to add some additional padding around my 12ah battery, but when removing It I noticed that there were some nice holes nearly worn through the case. My battery holder is tight and I can’t make it any bigger, so I don’t have room for padding.

Now is as good a time as any to ditch the big battery and the starter. I got a smaller 6ah battery, and will now be able to fit the battery, regulator, and rectifier all in the footprint of where the old bat was. It will clean up the look of the bike a lot!

I cut apart my original battery holder and boxed It in. I am painting it all up now hopefully to have the bike back on the road this weekend. The weather is starting to get nice I got to get back on the road!!!

So the brake line / master upgrade is amazing. New setup works so much better than the stock.

Also swapped out the fork oil. When I did the original rebuild I used ATF as the manual stated. I upgraded to some Bel-ray 10w, and the front end is stiffer and feels so much more planted and stable. I also don’t feel all the bumps and groves in the road like I used to.

Right now the side covers are off as I scrap the starter / install one of PJ’s plugs, and also install the new clutch/ springs. The old clutch plates actually don’t look that bad, and they are still within the service limit. I think it may be more the springs that were the issue, but who knows what 20 years of sitting in bad oil will do to the friction plates.

The bike will be much more enjoyable to ride now. Only issue I am still chasing is getting the carbs perfect. I think I have got them almost as good as I can with 159 needle jets. Right now the bike idles great and is perfect above ¼ throttle. I have a few more things to try before I switch over to 176 needle jets and start the tuning process all over again.

The new battery box.

My first try at making gaskets. They came out awesome, and it was only $5 for the roll of material.

looking nice.
a couple questions-

1) what color duplicolor engine enamel did you use?

2) did you make the battery box? I am basically making the exact same seat type on my own cb360 and need some sort of battery box myself. Just wondering if you got it somewhere, or if you made your own?

sbaugz- the paint color is "aluminum" , and I made the battery box from 16g sheet metal. There are some better pics in the first part of the thread. The first generation box had all the electronics mounted on the outside and a big battery. I recently boxed it in and put everything inside the box with a smaller battery.

I finished installing the new clutch and removing the starter. I didn't realize how bad the clutch was until I took the bike for a ride with the new one over the weekend. Most of the hesitation I was feeling was the clutch not the carbs. I am done with upgrades for this year until something breaks. Time to ride the hell out of it and get back to my Katana project.

Thanks to PJ for the starter block off plug!!

I recently installed a 17T front sprocket on the bike. It makes such a huge difference in the rideability. It is so much better, way less shifting. Now I can comfortably cruse on the highway in 6th with the RPMs staying between 5-6k. I think the biggest advantage is that I don’t have to shift into 2nd halfway through turns when starting from a stop.

Now with the clutch not slipping and the bike geared better, the carbs do not feel bad. It was really the other issues that were the main problem. So I can finally say after one and a half years of tinkering MY CARB TUNING IS DONE!!!!!!!!!!

I just read through all 18 pages and i'm exhausted. Crazy attention to detail, and borderline obsessive carb tuning ;)

Who is this PJ, and how do i go about getting my own starter block-off? And with all the tuning changes in the last few pages, what did you finally settle on for the VM30's?
