360 swiftly

Waving an unlit propane torch around them to check for leaks will only raise the idle if the carbs are properly tuned or running lean... if the bike is running rich it won't change. Granted if the boots are cracked it should be running lean, but if someone has adjusted to compensate for it, that could mask what you are looking for.
Back in my early Auto-tech days when cars still had carbs ( ::) ) that is how we set the idle mixture screws, a quick shot down the carb would raise the idle about 50-80 rpm if you had it adjusted right.

Did some work this weekend and got her idling at 1200 again. Nothing that I sprayed on the carb boots changed the idle at all, so I removed the boots and the crappy paper gaskets didn't look like they were sealing. Ditched those and put some RTV between the boot and the head.

I also checked the compression for like the 20th time again which was fine. The timing was a little off on the right cylinder and the valves were a little tight on the left. I didn't get a chance to ride yet but everything seems much better. It is odd how everything was adjusted fine a few months ago with not many miles on the bike.
How often do you guys adjust your timing and valves?

I was limited by what I could do with the orientation by the flat spot on the back of the gauge, and that the mounting bracket is upside-down.

Hoosier
Thanks for the tip. Over the weekend my pops was telling me he used propane to check for vacuum leaks back in the day.
Now if I can just find the nozzle for my propane tank I will be all set to try it out!

360 swiftly

It's been a while sinse I have posted. I have been super busy with the bike and regular life responsibilities. I have made tons of progress on the bike. It is done!! (until something breaks or it stops running).

I did some work to modify my pass pegs to flow better with the frame and fit under the mufflers.

I also finally got the VM30's tuned. The bike is running better that ever.

Dig those mufflers....you may have posted previously but where did you locate those?

at 12" long, are they pretty...err...authoritative? Saving lives?
Hehe......how do they sound?

Re: 360 swiftly

Good job man. Glad she's running well. What ended up being your main issue?

Been trying to set something up with my buddy who is big into photography. I should have some great shots soon!
I will also try to get a video for you guys to hear the mufflers!

Finally we are under the same roof!

I already started on my next project. I just picked up a 92 katana 600 for super cheap from a buddy. Needs a decent amount of maintenance work but, it will slowly be morphing into a fighter / cafe type thing.

Had an awesome day today. Had my buddy come down and take some really good shots of the bike. Once they are all edited I will post them up.

I busted out the bell 500 for the rolling shots and had the bubble visor get ripped off my face at about 50 mph when I turned my head getting off the highway. That was unexpected! Looks like the 500 is going to go back to being a display piece in my living room I will stick with the shoei!

Looks good man! Kinda tough to browse through flickr on my phone, but I'll try to remember to check again on the pc. Tell your buddy those "thrash the dress" shots are cool too.

May I make a suggestion? Just a small fender brace at least......hate to hear about a knee slapper on such a nice scoot.

Re: 360 swiftly

Thanks Rich! The formatting of the flickr mobile site is pretty bad. I just got The free iphone app, it is much easier to navigate.

Yea doing a front fender or support has been on the list. Now that the bike is running I have not really been thinking too much about the secondary projects. The front end feels good. I don’t notice any flex, but I should do something soon. I will pull out the fender and start getting some ideas over the weekend.

I am really excited about the pictures from the shoot over the weekend. I am heading over to my buddies place tomorrow to check out the rest of the shots and will post them up in the show n shine.

Andie--

In an earlier post, you said a CT. cop pulled you and gave the bike a once-over. Any issues with the lack of chain guard, front fender, or pipes? I have a CB360 also in CT an will be putting it back on the road next spring. Wondering if I can leave off the above junk.
BTW bitchin' bike!

I don't really know the laws, and the good thing is that most of the CT cops don't know them either. I only got a ticket for not having eye protection. I now have mufflers, but don't plan on ever running a chain guard. I haven't had any other issues with the cops recently.

Here is a link to a thread I started in the show n shine with some additional pictures.

put a fork brace on it if your removing fender, it will handle 'strange to bad' without any bracing, depending on how you ride and how undulating the roads are

Last night I went for it! It was in the mid 90’s yesterday and I figured if the bike could take a decent length ride at highway speeds in that heat I would be all set. So I took a cruse up to my buddies house where he was tearing down his new Kawi H1 project. My bike ran great! I did notice some interesting steering response on some of the more worn-in roads. Definitely doing a fork brace this weekend. I may play around with tire pressures as well.
I also learned that even though my seat looks awesome. Long rides, 1” foam, and my bony ass don’t mix! The back end also bounces around a lot off of bumps because I weight nothing. I need to get rid of all the spring preload or gain like 30 pounds. I would have to eat like 10,000 calories a day with my metabolism!

andoor, do you know what slide cutaway youre using? Or any other tips. I have a set of vm30's from DCC coming for my 360. if there settings dont work ill try yours as youre the second person ive seen with those specs.
