Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the heat is on......
Thanks Micah - the badges did turn out great. So let's see....gonna have a drink for you, for JRK, for the other DTT members that can't make it..... I better get more beer!
For a little update on the bike: I put about 60 miles on her today. Ran great. Changed the oil w/ Rotella + cleaned the filter last night, probably change it again one more time before we leave. New clutch cable didn't come in today, and I had to swap out the led's in the signals for normal bulbs. Damn things were going off like strobe lights.
Oh yeah, I have to clean up the spare bedroom! Maybe I'll have Swagger change the oil for me......
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the heat is on......
Had some strange malfunctions in WV - brake light switch busted, tail light was a single LED, blowing fuses when connecting the brake light switch - everything appears to be back to normal. I don't know if it was the heat messing with the tail light somehow...... but aside from the switch it's all good now. I also lifted the fork tubes up through the upper clamp about 1/4" and put the clip on's on top. Those bumpy roads in WV made it VERY hard to ride bent over all the time.
Oh yeah, and tried cleaning off the dirt and dust - that stuff got thick! New clutch cable is in today. Woo hoo! Should be posting some pics up today.
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the heat is on......
Rich, I had a weird electrical thing happen over the weekend as well. I went to start the bike and, nothing, no spark. I have power at the point connector but no spark in the points so I'm assuming bad breaker points. they were old as the ones I had ordered were not right. I just got some correct NOS ones in the mail today. hopefully that will straighten things out.
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the heat is on......
Well, no pics today. I got everything all bolted down and was going to the local lake for pics when I got caught up talking about bikes. He needs some help with a T-90 he's trying to sell and has a SL100 that's been in the garage for 35 years!
Diesel - oh yeah, there's a pic thread. It's in "Loungin"
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - the heat is on......
Ok, no pics again but I did shoot a riding video. I took the camera to get some "non-garage" shots when a buddy called and needed help with something. Now bear with me, this is just a digital camera taped to the headlight bucket with an exposed mic:
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - first riding video
Thanks guys - there's all kinds of smaller roads like that around here. You know, the kinds that people try to go TOO fast on and wipe out into a tree or something.
As far as the bike: it was actually popping at WOT today. I tried bumping the mains a little from 140 to 150.....I think I need some 145's. But I also think I should get a Dyna coil and adjust the valves again before spending another chunk of dough.
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - first riding video
Very cool Rich! keep that jetting and tuning info coming. I'm at the same point. Looks like my electrical issue is a bad condensor (the only component not yet replaced) Will post a vid asap!
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - first riding video
Just doing the tuning up tonight. My intake valve on the right and the exhaust valve on the left were a little tight and my timing was retarded a couple degrees. Hopefully I can squeeze a little test ride in tonight.....but I doubt it.
Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - first riding video
Ha! Glad you guys liked it. It was a last minute thing, so maybe next time I'll find a better road and mount the camera better as well.
So after doing a little tune-up last night I took her out for a little spin and here's where the carbs are at: 150 mains with the needle lifted almost all the way (2nd notch from the bottom). Seems to be pulling well with no popping or sputtering. Might try 145 and 155 mains next week.
