Here is your exhaust system. I lost our digi, so you'll have to deal with the phone pics til you get your exhasut in hand.
I think it came out better than my original, mostly due to the cone design. I tilted it up a bit like you wanted. I still need to weld on the support, which you'll be happy to know will use a motor mount bolt. Your exhaust also makes oil changes much easier.
I went an head and tried it out the good news is that it works...very well. The bad news is that it works much, much better than my original--meaning I may go back and re-fabricate my exhaust. I specified a different reverse cone design, which I'll use moving forward. Your bike is really quiet at idle. But roll on the throttle, and she gets really loud, pulling much better than my original design. I was honestly shocked at the difference. I figured the original would have worked better.
Anyway, there are a couple details I'll txt you in a minute.
chris, i love it. i guess i have a knack for thinking of things that will function well and look good
i don't mind the rough headers, i can always fix that if i really feel the need to.
i'm stoked to get it! no hurry though, i'm still working on the seat and once that's done i need to do a test mounting before paint. THEN i'll need the exhaust
i really appreciate all the work you've done on it, i know it wasn't easy peasy to find that cone.
also, i wore my motofiaccone shirt to the vintage bike show in new york today, and told some folks that you do seats and exhausts ;D
the project is moving at a glacial pace right now. it feels like my work has got me there more hours than there are in a week
the week before last was crazy! i went to minnesota from sunday-thursday to visit family. when i got back on thursday, i hardly had time to put my stuff down before jeremy and i were off to beaverun out by pittsburgh (6+ hour drive).. i had a few minutes to rest on saturday, and then went to NY on sunday for a vintage moto show.
now i'm trying to get some seats done. sorry that's going a little slow, chris! i promise i'll have some out to you this week!
currently looking for a brake caliper, master cylinder, and some green steel braided brake lines for a cb450
i have done some work on the seat.. i'm very happy with it, i'll get pictures up soon.
finally got to work on the bike a little bit tonight. i cut the tabs off the frame (where the stock pegs/kick stand mount and where the side covers go on)
didn't grind everything down yet, that'll be for another night.
figured out where i'm mounting the rearsets and how i'm mounting the tank.
more pictures on thursday, hopefully i'll be able to do more on the bike then.
almost done with the seat, i need to take more pictures of that too..
i want to send it off for paint at the end of the month
Just keep it moving, Looking forward to the pics. Seat arrived safe and sound BTW. Bump is way bigger than I expexted, (which is good) I think its going to work on my 450.
I have an xs 650 as well, but that rear hoop is crying out for a brat seat. The 450 is bigger and i think the seat will work. The xs frame is so cool it should always be emphasized.
I'm taking forever on the seat. I wanted the seat to sit right on top of the frame, so I had to use the first fiberglass seat as a mould which I then modified using plaster. Now I'm working on sanding it and squaring off the edges. It's about finished as of today. I also got the tank mounted, I'll post photos of how I did that. I used the stock latch and rubber mounts. Turned out great. I like being able to take the gas tank off easily.
Last summer I was riding my little kz200 on the freeway and ran out of gas. I was able to roll down the exit ramp and right into the gas station. After that I headed back the other direction, where I saw a guy on a chopper who had run out of gas a little ways from the exit ramp. I pulled over, took my tank off, and ran across four lanes of traffic and over a divider to give the guy some of my gas.
Woah way to get sidetracked Gosauce.
Anywho, I plan on having the bike off for paint by October.
Is that yellow going to be the final color? I personally love bikes with eye-opening colors and that yellow will look very sporty.
Also what about the lip on the back of the seat. Will it stay that way or is it to be trimmed. Could be a unique look, but I'm not sure how it'll fit in with the other edges.
Nope, that fiberglass seat is just the mould. The edge of the seat will go right along the frame. The lip will be cut off. The final color will be white and green. A bright green, so I think it'll still be pretty sporty. There will also be a fiberglass piece that connects the tank and the seat, which will pull out and be a compartment for my wallet or something. Painted the wheels black, and will be painting the carbs and engine charcoal.
This is really going to be a cool build. well done on it! I'm looking forward to seeing the paint and the new exhaust on it. More importantly, I'm looking forward to seeing some riding video of you tearing up the streets of Philly!
Hey Go,
I've got a good caliper that'll work for you. I'd gladly 'pay it forward' for good deal on some seat upholstery at some point. Sound like a deal? Do you need the caliper arm too...have one of those in good shape too. Yours if'n ya want'm..
lemme know.
maybe i'll go out and work on the seat tonight, i'm anxious to get it done!
i need to take more pictures, i just get too into working to stop and take them.
as soon as the seat is done, i'll start on the little compartment.
