looks great DJ...can't wait to see some video!

-side note, completely n00b question- but what purpose does the steering damper serve? is it necessary?

back on topic now ;D

It helps reduce head shake at higher speeds. 8)

I haven't really researched suspension techniques like I want, but I wonder if it doesn't also benefit shortened forks. I have heard in the past on different mc forums that shortened wheelbases make a bike prone to the "wobble of death". I dig the mod anyway! 8) BTW, where did that seat pan/cowl come from? Very nice piece.

Yep, it helps reduce that. The seat I got from Rock City Cafe Racers. Great stuff there. The seats pretty much come ready to paint.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread![It's Alive!]

The damper is used for shorter WB bikes and bikes with a steep rake, it is to reduce speed wobble. If you have a raked out fork, no need for a damper, your trail will create a damper effect! But if you have a raked out forks, your mod list most likely would not include a damper, it will not add the coolness like a billet wheel! 8)

Same palce you find everthing else.....the internet!

Be carefull what you get as there are a few different designs for different applications.

The long ones are the easiest as universal dampers to mount to vintage bikes.

Mines off of an 03 GSXR. I had to do a little work to make it bolt up, but it came out great.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread![VIDEO!]

It's alive!!!

Congrats man! Kinda makes you feel like Dr. Frankenstein, doesn't it?

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread![VIDEO!]

congrats! It sounds great! I want to hear it opened up!

what size is the front tire on there?

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread![VIDEO!]

Thanks guys. Yes indeed I do feel like Dr. Frankenstein. The front tire is a 110/90-18. Got it sorted out a little more since the video. Turns out my right throttle cable was hung up a little. That's why the right side was firing weird. Can't wait to rip her down the street. I'll get more video of that.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread![VIDEO!]

Super well done! This isn't your first bike build I am guessing? What paint did you use on the wheels and is that chrome strip on the seat just the stuff you can buy at random auto/hardware stores?

It's my first complete build. Done plenty of modifying, tweaking, and general mechanic work. The paint is Rustoleum Hammered Finish. I like the bit of industrial texture that it gave the bike. Plus I wanted to do something different.
