The F-4 might be a pissed off, mean looking, bad assed brute...but it's not pretty. :)

Sorry, she was the most beautiful proof that "If you put a big enough engine on, even a brick will fly!"

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

OT but there's a P51D at the local airport and it flew over my house a few days ago...Amazing!

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

Nothing picture worthy to report. Just cracking the whip on myself to get that damn wiring done. MEH! Fortunately I have a freelance CD mastering job to do this week so I'll be able to afford my newtronic ignition and the last few pieces parts. :)

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

Nice! Got the steering dampner figured out. Hopefully my fork brace gets here soon.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

Is that the position the damper will be? Is there a danger of the tire hitting it, because it doesn't look like there is a whole lot of fork travel. And, you're going to put a fork brace on so it might get pretty crowded under there. Just wondering. My CB project has about the same amount of fork travel as yours and I worry about the bottoming out thing...

Fork travel on the 94 EX500 forks I'm using is 5.1in and I left a little over 6in of space. It should be fine I'll check it for sure and if it looks to close I can flip it to the top. I guess I may want to do that anyway. Thanks for looking out.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

did you try turning... it looks to me like you wont be able to turn all the way left with the damper like that...

Yep, works perfectly. The picture is from an odd angle not to mention the iPone's aperture and depth of field leave a lot to be desired.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

I like the double pivoting mount, very clever.

Keep in mind (though it looks like you have)....isn't the ex front tire a 110/70-17? Quite a bit shorter than a 100/90-18 (never mind a 19"). Still, a little extra fluid and you can stave off some of that danger. What's that damper from?

Does it clear the tank as well? I have one off these dampers and I'm interested in mounting options too. Could you throw a pic up with the tank on, and full left lock if you get a chance?

cheers

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

Hey gang, sorry, I didn't get notification of any of these replies. Yes it a 2000 something GSXR dampner. Currently I'm awaiting a fork bracket for it to remount it above the lower triple. Were it is now clears the (CL) tank fine. Not sure if it'll clear a CB tank. I have a junk one laying around so I can check. When it all comes together I'll post another pick.

Meanwhile, daddy's been gettin lotso parts in the post. Got my battery, Newtronics ignition, o-ring chain, and mirrors. Gonna have lots to do this weekend! If all goes well, she should be ready to kick over sometime next week (fingers crossed). I'll post some picks of the progress this weekend.

Thanks a lot. I always love your enthusiasm in the build comments. I also love the "BUILT NOT BOUGHT" slogan. I was thinking that would look great on a t-shirt. Also a "REAL BIKES ARE BUILT IN GARAGES" shirt might be cool.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. To busy trying to get this build done to be online. So anyway. Do to concern about fork travel and where I had my dampner I decided to order a 37mm fork clamp and try to get it up above the lower triple. I'm happy to say it worked awesome. I'll post a picture tonight. Other then that I'm just about done with the wiring. I ghetto rigged a box under the seat to hold the battery, rect, and reg I just need one more three way butt connector and I'll be done. I'll make sure I get some pics. Bummer is that my ignition didn't work out. I guess a bunch of kits went out with the wrong plates in them. Good news is the company said they have the right stuff for me and are getting it over. Hopefully it works out.

Re: 71 CL350 Cafe Time for the build thread!

Been awhile since I posted pictures. here's a few to show the progress. I'm so close to being done! I just need to get the proper ignition (they sent me the wrong one) and get the right clutch cable. Plus make the seat cover and a bunch of other little details. GOD!! I can almost smell the exhaust!

Here's the new dampner set up. Thanks to folks here for the inspiration to move it to a safer location.
