71 Indignant CB175 - Complete (w/ pics)!!!

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

I think I'm going to go with Emgo Shorties, unless someone has an idea good enough to sway me. :D

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

^Emgo's it is, since I found a nice gentleman that is giving me his old ones. ;D

Also, the wife has given me the go ahead to completely finish the bike next month. Meaning...I'm still restricted from buying for the rest of this month, but I have an open bank account for August! 8)

I started bolting on parts last night and got most of the extraneous wiring cleaned up. I'll tackle the wiring harness tonight, its a rat's nest! I also put a final top layer of fiber cloth on the seat. That smoothed it out very nicely, so the filling and sanding should be much simpler. Once that cures up, I'm going to layer some more CSM on the underside of the seat to stiffen it up a bit more. Pictures later.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

Almost two weeks and no update! Shame on me.

Most of what I have been doing is wiring, soldering, and cabling and cleaning up some obscure bits. No pictures of that, its just busy work.

A friend of mine came over today with his mini acetylene torch and we brazed plugs in the holes in the frame from my botched tank mounts.

Then we brazed on new tank mounts after raising the tank higher, since its a much taller tank than the stock 175 tank.

I think that's about all for now. Friday I order the rest of the parts I need.

Thanks for looking!

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

Trying to decide on a paint scheme. I am leaning towards white with black. Let me know what you guys thinks.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

White with black for sure IMO. White bikes look great and stick out in the sea of flat blackers.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

Ordered all the rest of the parts that I need...minus cables and paint. I am also reworking the seat as well, sanding and adding more glass. I'll get some images up later when the parts start coming in. Wife phase completion ETA: 1 month.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

Alright, I just finished re-glassing the seat. As I said earlier, I wasn't happy with how it sat on the bike, and determined that the seat sides should come down lower to match the lines on the tank. So that's just what I have done.

Everything went very well this time around. I duct-taped cardboard to the insides to ensure the fibers lie straight down and then waxed them. Then I cut up my excess fiber from the first run into strips and laid them on a sheet of aluminum foil. Then I painted them in resin, brushed out the excess, and stuck them onto the sides and smoothed out the edges. This worked remarkably well. Tomorrow I can set it on the bike and mark the new lines to cut. I can't wait.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

I'm very interested to see how the seat ends up sitting on the bike. My seat arrives tomorrow, I'm crazy excited!

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

So here is the rough cut of the seat. Still a lot of work to go on it though. :(

And I got my turn signals from Lockhart Phillips. Outstanding quality, these things are gorgeous and just $20/pack! Real metal not plastic, dual filament.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

So I guess my wife went to the mail box after I went to sleep, though I'm still trying to figure out how this stuff came after the turn signals on the same day.

Petcock and new Rectifier.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

Do they make those signals in a red lens running/brake light setup that you know of?

It seems from their site, no. You could get the clear and run a red bulb though. That would look awesome. Why didn't I think of that! Haha, oh well.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Almost A Roller!

I may do that. I was going to run a small LED unit under my seat, but it doesn't kick up enough at the rear to really show it. Looks like I'll either be hanging them off the sides of the frame or going with a flexible LED strip on the back of the seat.

I originally wanted to do a flex LED strip like this. But it can get pretty pricey and I am already over budget. :(

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 -Parts are coming in!

Parts are coming in daily. 8)

Got my tires yesterday and filters, plug caps, and handlebars today. A lot of work still to go. Started putting more filler on the tank to prep it for primer. The seat got sanded and is ready for mounting before I put the filler on it.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 -Parts are coming in!

Another order in. This one from DCC.

img_1028.jpg

I am waiting on grips and throttle tube before I can mount up and finish off the handlebars, but I mocked up the lever, mirror and control.

In other news, the tank is ready for primer and paint, and I am off to the hardware store to get the seat mounting supplies and various other necessities. Once the seat mounting is fab'd and drilled, I can fill and sand the seat and prep it for paint with the tank.

Thanks for looking.

Also, trying to get the tires mounted has been a PITA, I may have to outsource this to a pro for $10/tire.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 -Parts are coming in!

I dig the mirrors. I may go a similar route on mine.
