Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ON THE ROAD!!

Video for sure, I just recieved the Grelmin Bell so I'll be out and about a bunch this long weekend. Heading to the store shortly to buy a new digital camera...

As for the gas, before I even drilled the hole, I topped it off a bit too high, came off a curb and spilled gas EVERYWHERE through the cap. Thought I pissed myself and smelled like gas for days! Oh well, lesson learned. Paint isnt badly hurt, I havent tried washing it yet so who knows, it might be fine, im not worried either way, gives it character right?

Fuel issues are about 90% solved. The last bit is its still starvin for gas after really getting on it for any length of time. Ripping it down a long straight and suddenly the power drops, sounds like one cylinder just stops firing. So really, I am reduced to moped status :( After that the second cylinder comes and goes in shorts bursts but if I come to a stop without staying on the throttle it dies. Get to a long red light however, and in about a minute it's back to normal and good until the next breakaway. Thoughts??? Suggestions gathered so far include: float height, petcock, and gas line length. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

Luckily, she still rips around the city just fine!

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ON THE ROAD!!

Well, it looks like I may have resloved the fuel issue. After thoroughly cleaning the carbs and getting the same result I finally checked my float height on my right side carb, since thats the cylinder that wasnt firing (cold header pipe after 20min of riding). Low and behold, it was 5mm too high! Adjusted it down to 25mm and put it all back together. Rode into work this morning as a test run and it ran perfectly, no bogging at all. I'll be taking it around some more today to make sure there are no problems but its lookin good! Thanks to Uniac and everyone else who lended their thoughts.

Great seat! Did you build all of it or just part of it?

The PO did the glassing, I did some fixing up to that and made the seat pan and cushion. Ideally I want a nice stubby little seat, which requires a nice lengthy tank... its on my winter list.

Love the seat and Love that backdrop for the pics! What an awesome city man...

Thanks dude! And a great city it is, now if they just got rid of that pesky parking authority it just might be perfect. Oh yea, and the homicides.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ON THE ROAD!!

Alright, got some electrical issues folks... Started the bike fine one day, rode to the gas station to fill up, turned the key and nothing happens, no headlight, tail light, ignition, nothing. Jiggle the igniton switch wires a bit and the headlight pops on. Hit the electric start button, hear a "click" and the headlight and everything else goes out. I figure the ignition switch is to blame so i pick up another used one and pop it on. Nothing. Now to the voltmeter...

Switch on "Off" - 12+ volts at the Red battery wire coming into the switch
0 volts at the coils

Switch to "On" - .04 volts at the same red wire and the other switch wires
.04 volts at the coils

Seems like something is sucking up all the voltage but I dont know what. Bad condenser? Any and all thoughts are welcome.

What else should I check with the voltmeter?

Once again, thanks in advance....300 perfect miles and then this. Im itchin to get back on the road.

bob.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

When you say it clicked and everything went out, did it go out like the ignition switch shut off or like it blew a fuse?

Maybe a bad connection around the kill switch. The weirdest thing that has ever happened to me was a fuse that blew. I checked it with a cheap 12v tester and it lit up, but with a multimeter it showed something like. .8 volts.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

The click sounded like the starter solenoid engaging for a second

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

I thought we figured out this was the bad ignition switch

Yea, until I switched it out for a new one and nothing changed... seems like the problem may lie between the ignition and the battery.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

This is a real enigma.

Are you sure it's not just a really weak battery? Even if there's a problem with the ignition, the starter should spin.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

I've got 12.64 Volts at the battery, maybe I'll try to give it a quick charge

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

If you find out it's the starter solenoid, VonYinzer has a spare one laying around on the 68 frame.

Good luck Bob!

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

check the connections at the battery. I had something similar happen and it was the connection on the small wire coming off of the pos. terminal.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

Hey Bob do you have a pic of your wiring diagram. I'm not that familiar with your wiring system. A pic would help me help you. Thats if I remember I posted here. If I do forget PM me. Are you a 100% sure that new ignition switch is good?

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

Didn't even think of that - could hotwire it.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

The problems lies where the power dies. Check grounds and continuity with VOM. Here is a wiring diagram, hope it helps.

Re: '72 CB350 K4 - 'ol no.7 - ELECTRICAL GURUS NEEDED!!!

If I remeber correctly we had power going in to the ignition switch but none coming out of it. checked that wiring diagram but its too hard to read I cant follow the lines or junctions.
