72 CL100, Piglet

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, GOTTA LOVE YOUR KIDS!!!

trek. I not so fondly remember those days with our two boys. I built a 58 bug for the older one and an early gti for the other one. They did everything in their power to try and destroy them. Really crappy for your daughter, new chip seal is the worst. We used to live in central WI and a few times I came over a hill on the monster to find new gravel where it wasn't last time and no caution signs of any time. I finally figured that if I rode easy on the way out, I could go harder on the way home.

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, GOTTA LOVE YOUR KIDS!!!

$63.00 is better than $3000.00 Glad your daughter is alright.

I like it that you can see the solder fixes under the tank. Gives me a little conversation piece

So... corn on the cob tonight?

HA ! In Illinois its corn on the cob EVERY night! ::)

And yes daughter is fine. Her first "experience" w police. The cop was super cool about the whole thing.

She was gonna call a tow truck, but waited for me to get there and drive it out. Best of all, No ticket.

OH, but I had to pay the farmer $50 for his corn. ;D

Good that your daughter is OK.

Look like even more corn on the cob, maybe for lunch and dinner now.

Bike looks great man............you did an absolute great job on that thing.

Gonna try the radiator shop deal on my tank in the near future, as soon as I can find one around here.

Wow... just wow. The before and after on this bike is an amazing transformation. It was just a couple months ago that you pulled her outta that shed. Great job Eric. Any luck getting Rachel on her yet?

Thanks bro ! It was a pretty quick build. Things just kept clicking along. Until I got off track w the paint...Dont know where my head was, when I sprayed color without remembering clear goes on immediately. luckily it came out pretty dang nice in the end.

Rach hasnt ridden yet. Shes like "I need helmet, gloves, boots, armor jacket, kevlar"...list goes on and on. Girls...Sheesh!
Shes excited though.

Re: Rachels 72 CL100 BLING Glamour shotsss

Now that I have a bit of experience using 2K. Heres what I did AND should have finished with.
Also, the 2K is only good for 48 hours after activated. So, plan on atleast 3 cans for this.

Clean parts w lacquer thinner.

give an even coat of primer. Let dry completely. Inspect primered part w a bright light for dings.

Apply and sand down filler, spray w Primer, inspect, repeat, spot glaze, primer til primer coat dries smooth and even over the whole part. (if you can see filler through dry primer coat it will show up in finish.

Keep priming & sanding until its perfect and evenly textured under light. Sand perfectly smooth w 400-800 grit, (this is how you get 95% of the mirror smooth finish) Blow off with compressor, wipe clean w damp water rag. Give her plenty of time for dampness to dry.

Blow clean w compressor. NOT even a speck of dust or lint.

Shake cans of color and 2K clear. Set them in a warm spot. (Warm cans spray smoother)

1 can of 2K was not enough to do all the parts on my 100 for this recipe, I shouldve had 2 cans ready for first round of clear coats.

Just before spraying color ACTIVATE 2K cans and shake again.

Shake and Spray color, 1 light coat, let it sit 7-10 minutes, shake can, 2nd light coat 7-10 minutes, shake can, 1 medium coat, 7-10 minutes.

Shake Pre-ACTIVATED 2K, 1 light coat, 7-10 minutes, shake, 1st medium coat, 7-10 minutes, shake, 2nd med coat.

Let it dry according to instructions its quickest to use infrared heat on it. I did not use heat, I just let them hang in the sun for days.

Heres the steps I shouldve done but didnt. I will do next time I use 2K.

I shouldve...

Let 2K dry a week. Wet sanded 2K w 1200-1500, then let it sit a second week.

Sprayed 1 med final coat of 2K over wet sanded 2K.

Had I done that it wouldve been ready for the cover of Hotrod magazine. 8)

Holy cow thanks bubba! Really means a bunch to me after seeing your work.

I assume nobody knew I could pull off such a "pretty" job. Considering the 360 "pig" became all about quality running and reliability and very little about getting "the look". haha

Congrats on the whole "Bike of the month" thing!
