Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Paint advice needed.

Here are the pics of shaft and lever. The threads on the lever fixing bolt were stripped when I got it so it had a hole and nut on it

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Paint advice needed.

HA, thought I clicked on the wrong bookmark there for a moment.

Maybe I shoulda written my paint question more better.

if I clear over the gloss WITHOUT sanding, will the clear stick or peel off?

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Paint advice needed.

This morning I replaced points and disassembled, cleaned & lubed advancer. To ensure smooth action.

Being careful not to stretch springs or install lobe 180 degrees out.

upon assembly, replaced worn out crap screws w something a little more user friendly.

Now just need to set gap and get her static time set.

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Paint advice needed.

Nice- I need to pick up one of those retainer clips for the 360, one was a bit worn, able to get it to set back in after compressing it a bit..

I would sand before clearing. You generally want to either clear while the base is still tacky or clear onto a scuffed surface

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Paint advice needed.

Trek, do you have a picture of the advancer put back together? I recently did the same and am obscenely paranoid that I put it back 180 degrees out. Even though the points seem to be opening and closing at the same time ::)
I set it so the notch on the lobe was pointing towardes the stamped dot on one corner of the advancer plate.

sorry bud, I just double checked camera, no pic installed.

You really wont know until its installed. Because, it depends where the engine is at in its stroke, when you removed it. You can double check it, by pulling spark plug and watching piston/valves while turning engine.
Turn engine to TDC the points will OPEN on the compression stroke.

Thats all I got.

Re: Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Paint advice needed.

Hey trek...........sux you have to spend more time painting, but it's gonna look real good when finished.

Tried to get ahold of my brother to see what he thought.

But, I think adventurco is right though.

Can't wait to see her complete and rolling.

You've been the one that got me out on my little CB100.

So keep it up............you'll git-r-done.

Looking good man!

Where did you order those stainless Allen's from?

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Paint advice needed.

Some of you may find them locally, I use bolt depot online. Good prices and quick shipping.

Alright. I think I'm fine then, since I took it off while the engine was at the T mark, and after putting it back on the points are just starting to open around the F mark and are open at the T.

As long as both valves are closed when its on the T mark. The T comes around twice per cycle. Once on the exhaust stroke then again on the compression stroke.

Now, you got me thinking Im gonna double check mine! lol ;D

Thanks bubba, I get the bolts at my local Do It Best Hardware. For a small store they dont have everything, but they do have a pretty mind blowing selection. Cant say they are the cheapest place...but very convenient.

Wishing they had Oval heads. Only flat, round and cap screws are on the shelf.

Got everything wet sanded w 1000. finishing rear fender this morning. Ready for clear on...weather permitting.
