72 CL100, Piglet

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

Thanks!

After a nap, me and Rachel made a mini assembly line. She cleaned, degreased and sanded. Handed them over to me and I hit em w the wheel. Bout a 45 minute teamwork job.

Not show quality, but better than before, not too awful for a quickie half-assed-hack-job, before supper.

And that aint no shit! I went to bed at 8, freakin exhausted! I want this thing done.

I been on this bike 5 weeks already.

Yesterday, I realized I havent even started the 360 since I got home from Kentucky.
May 18th, and here it is June 14th!

Im ready to go for a ride. On my OWN friggin bike. And seeing her up there on the banner, everytime I open DTT. Well, that aint really helping.

BTW...Thanks for letting me vent! ;) I feel better already!

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

Ebay foot peg assembly arrived. Freakin filthy, so need to blast that. :D Plus, some misc parts needing paint...forgot to epoxy the tail light back yesterday. Ugh.

Re: Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

I really need to fin one of those foot peg assemblies.

Mine is rusted like crazy, and is the solid type too, not good for leaning into the corners.

Your work is looking good, bud.

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

EXPERIMENTAL ONLY !

OK I know I am gonna get yelled at by some a-holes. But, Im posting this anyways.

New forks from indonesia are $100+ bucks. If This dont work I will do that.

so let the hating begin. LOL

Forks had some pitting right down near where the seal is gonna sit. So I googled repairs. Pretty much found NOTHING. Except for one popular fix...seems "F-ed" up to me though. They are using SUPER GLUE for this. They claim it will "get you by for a year" Ugh. Stupid.

However mine may not be much better.

soaked em in evaporust for a couple days to help ensure they are rust free. Cleaned them with acetone.

Mixed up some "steel weld"

OK, I could sand em w 1000 grit emory. But, that would take FOREVER, I used a razor blade instead. Quicker and to avoid scratching them up.

I put a light smear of grease on side of blade and just started "shaving" the epoxy off. Going as thin and lightly as I could. Just a bit at a time. Blade all but flat to the tube. Drawing while pulling, so to give it a slicing action. Avoid just chipping and scratching it out.

It actually came out really nice and pretty flush. I cant feel the patches when rubbing them w my finger tip. I can tell a texture or smoothness difference but CANT catch my finger nail on it. So maybe now just a swipe or two w 1000 grit. IDK ?

Its got to be better than super glue!

I think you should hop on that 360 and go for a ride.

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

You should look up Belzona 1111 Super Metal. What you're doing is not unheard of, but there is better product out there. Super Metal is specifically formulated for repair of pitted shafts, hydraulic rams as well as reforming bearing housings.

Well, where in the heck were you at 3am this morning? ;) Ill look into the super metal. In the event this dont work. After that I will look at brand new indonesian tubes.

Anyways, I am at a complete standstill, missed shooting a couple small parts w epoxy yesterday. ::)

So, I could go for a spin, But, its looking like its gonna dump rain any second. AND its bout NAPPY POO time.

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

While I was taking a snooze, it started pouring rain.

Epoxied parts had enough time to work with. Started some reassembly.

Rach held the tubes while I beat in new seals. Found my triple tree...Of course, Its not blasted...GRRR. Not waiting for chrome shop to get the good springs done (few more weeks) just painted the old crappy springs for now.

Got tires mounted. Not balanced yet.

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

Biggest issue with epoxy on fork tubes is getting all the oil out of surface pores.
After brake cleaner, pressure wash, etc, heat with a propane torch to 'sweat' oil out.
Need to get it around 300+f so any oil turns to carbon.

Lookin good. Is that epoxy paint out of a rattle can?

Thanks, yes, all paint is out of the spray can for me. ;) BTW the epoxy on lowers came out really nice and glossy. In the previous pic they are covered in our greasy hand prints after seal install.

Now you tell me. lol ;D

I treated them the same as 360 lowers, a quick wipe down w acetone and hit it! The only spot on the 360 lowers "so far" is where a tie-down buckle rubbed epoxy off. Trailering 6 hours home from Kentucky either last year or before. It got repaired w an Ichiban moto sticker. ::)

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

Yeah I used that stuff for all my black. Has held up quite well through assembly. We'll see how it holds up to the road.

I also spend way too much time prepping for paint.

Re: Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Clean up

I went with this paint on my frame and SA.

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Let the assembly begin.

I just used rustoleum on the frame...I think I hate it. I like Krylon, best.

Before work I....

Balanced wheels using musket balls. 2 - .54 cal's did the trick. ( .62 cal were too heavy) I dont have any of those fancy stick-on weights.

Then after work...engine went in. I dont like dupli-color engine enamel either. :p VHT ONLY from now on.
Dupli-color gloss clear coat sucks. Its dull. VHT gloss is awsome!

Re: Rachels, 72 CL100, Let the assembly begin.

That's an awful lot of effort when fishing sinkers are already made that way. You can even mix and match different weights. ;)
