'74 CB360 cafe project - (New clutch springs and back to analog gauges.)

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - (Battery tray in progress)

they don't weigh very much at all that is not a worry.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - (Battery tray in progress)

I fit battery where tool box used to live, even a little weight high up and far back could be noticeable? (at least, the way I ride ;D )
Inertia will make battery 'heavier', plus, unless you have a quick release seat, any electrical problems could become a real issue

Yeah, this battery weighs in at 5 pounds. Not much to worry about there. Not as light as some of the Lithium Ion batteries but still not the behemoth OEM battery. If I were racing I'd have no starter and no battery and just have a capacitor to help run the electrical.

I have been thinking of this, and I may even fit it to the inside of the inner splash gaurd........ ;)

Good point, I think your electrical tray is perfect and I will be using the same type

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - (Battery tray in progress)

Don't get me wrong, I'll do what I can to keep my bike light and sporty (within my budget at least), but hiding the battery beneath the bump and cleaning out the air box/battery/tool kit area and leaving that space wide open looks so damn good, that's definitely where my battery is gonna end up.

If I were that worried about performance I'd be getting a newer bike with a bigger engine. But I suppose that would probably be out of my price range too.

Ok, not a whole lot this weekend on the bike, band had a show to play fri and had a good date night with the wife sat, Dark Knight movie tonight... Exceeded my expectations btw.

I did however get started on the wheels... Got the front tire off and pulled the spokes. I'll clean up the rim and hub... The rim delightfully wasn't terribly rusted. I think a wire brush and a little CLR might just do the trick.

how much of pain is removing all the spokes hey, are you getting new ones?

Not bad at all I just cut the tire off with a reciprocating saw and hacksaw since there was no need to save an old cracked half bald tire... and took a cordless drill with a flat head bit and backed out all the spoke nipples, easy peasy. And yes I have new chrome spokes to go back on. I also ordered up a set of Avon Roadrider Tires yesterday to put back on... stock sizes. 90/90-18 100/90V-18

Frame is going for powder today... getting these hubs polished up and wheels relaced is this weeks goal... maybe replacing the fork seals and dust boots and polishing the fork lowers too... gonna be in Nashville fri-mon so I got a short shop week this week.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

Frame made it out to the powder coater yesterday. I went in with a couple of others that have project bikes going on. We took my CB360, A 78 XS650 and a '69 Triumph T100 to him... great price of $150 per frame for media blasting and powder coating gloss black.

I posted a question over in the wheels and tires forum asking the hub offset for the 360 front wheel with disc brake. If any of you 360 guys witha disk brake can measure the offset on the disk side I'd appreciate it.

meanwhile I've got a slew of parts rolling in over the next few days... next couple of weeks should be interesting.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

good price on the powder coating, I have a quote to do my frame and swing arm at $180AUD so sounds like things are on an even par for a change ;)

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

looks like things are going your way.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

Just got back from a short vacation in Nashville... ready to get back on the bike project. I got my new alloy rims from MikesXS today.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

those rims look badass what did those set you back.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

They were quite affordable at $74 for the front (H 1.85x18 36 hole) and $85 for the rear (H 2.15x18 36 hole) Free shipping too...

Cheaper than having my old rims re-chromed. Better too!!! (I did send a couple of things out for chrome, Kick stand and Kick starter, should be just enough bling along with the other replaced or cleaned up chrome.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

Alright... I got the front wheel laced. (not trued up though.) Lacing was enough pain in the ass until after dinner (and maybe a couple of episodes of "Breaking Bad", gonna try to finish season 2 tonight.)

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

Love the kitchen counter truing stand! I use a coffee table plopped in front of the tv for hours of truing entertainment!

Mad science bitches!

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Frame out for powder coating

Got the rear hub cleaned and polished up. I'm just doing a medium polish on the hubs there are a few pieces around there that are very toughf to polish so I don't want a huge contrast between parts. I painted the center of the hub silver also.... Front hub was done the same way.
