Yeah, I ended up picking the Koso DB-01R to use. It'll handle all my speed/tach/indicator needs.

I need to figure out mounting the speed pickup...I'm either going to drill the disc mounting bolt holes for the magnets or I'm going to drill the rotor itself, drilling the rotor would allow me to use all 6 magnets which would give a nice smooth speedometer refresh. It's pretty small... I've got a couple of ideas for mounting... I'll post what I end up doing.

My stock gauges are just in not good enough condition to use... plus I think the digital unit will add to the clean quasi-modern look I'm after.

Today I chucked my disc brake mounting bolts up in my buddy's lathe and drilled them out for the magnets for the speedo pickup.

Then I made a mount for the speedometer unit itself.

Here's the gearbox spacer installed...

And I also got the brake disk installed now that I have the magnets installed int the bolt heads.

Did you leave the 'O' ring on hub?

Yep, it's still on there... Good eye, I did not even think to remove it, I'll cut it off later... :)

Today I fabricated a mounting bracket for my tail light. I'm going to use a Flexible LED Run/Brake/Turn light from Radiantz. Should look sweet... I'm going to drill and tap the frame hoop and bolt directly to it.

I love the way this thing looks... would you consider making more of these things?

No, sorry. I do not own a welder, I'm just borrowing one from a buddy.

All I did was bend a 3' length of bar stock by hand to match the hoop radius and cut the good part out. (wasteful) and cut the flat part out of 16gauge steel with a jig saw and cleaned everything up on the belt sander and tack weld the two parts together.

If I owned a slip roller and a welder I'd get on it and make a batch. I too think its a cool part.

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Just read this thread from beginning to end and can't wait for the next update! Keep up the awesome work...and put me on the waiting list for the custom taillight mounting bracket. :D Way too cool!!!

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

So, I'm ready to start prep work to mount my controls to my Clip ons...

My first time doing clip-ons... How are most of you doing the wire routing? It's only gotta go a few inches versus the the original foot and a half... are you going in the bar at the control and drilling out a hole at the bottom at the clamp end? or knocking out the plug and actually coming out of the bar end? I searched and didn't really run across any threads discussing it... (Is everyone embarassed of what they did? :) )

Re: '74 CB360 cafe project - (Clip-On Wiring Question)

I drilled my bars and ran the wires right out the ends (I shrink wrapped em w the good stuff from harbor freight) you can get it in long rolls pretty cheap. It worked great. Painting my engine I got everything masked off so I can post any pics right now. sorry.
I got torrazzi clip ons...but even in the pics you posted it would work great. And considering the cables youre gonna add and all. It would still have to look better than the old half assed, no guts, no glory method of running them on the outside. which just looks either lazy or you just didnt have the balls to drill em and run properly. I have pulled wires through every set Ive had...drag, clubmans.,,now clip ons. The clipons are obviously by far the easiest...no bends! Either way...youre gonna have wires...atleast this will give a cleaner look, like you tried to do your best.
Just measure the holes in the stock bars...large hole (oval-wires) and small hole for pin. Make damn sure you get them in the correct orientation...the exact angles where you want your handles to be. Not to high not to low. Then consider if you want bar end mirrors. ( you will need a tiny amount ( 1/32 - 1/16 inch) of bar out the end of your throttle grip. so as you twist the grip it doesnt rub the mirror bracket. Otherwise it could keep it from snapping back crisply. USE YOUR CENTER PUNCH TO MARK HOLES AND A SMALL PILOT DRILL. Also I dont make the wire hole an oval so much. I drill it round and use the dremmel to soften the sharp edges and cut it a little oval shaped ( as best I can) And dont go oversize, dont want the bar to be weakend.
then double, triple and four-ple check everything again!!! Then grow a wild hair on your nuts and drill em.

I am well familiar with Harbor Frieght shrink wrap. :) It's a really good value, and rather decent tubing. I do a LOT of wiring in my other hobbies, I keep a drawer full of the stuff.

I ordered up a bunch of new wire for the bike... I really really like the Silver plated Teflon jacketed wire I get from ApexJr.com Steve has awesome prices on some of the absolute best wire you can buy... I've used it for years in my guitar amplifier builds. So in the spirit of not compromising on my build as best as I can, I ordered up 10 colors of 18awg wire to make my new harness. I'm gonna ditch the old Molex connectors for nice Deustch connectors. I need to pick out new spade and bullet connectors, anyone got a link to a good deal on nice weather proof connectors with heat shrink jackets?

Reminds me... I need to order grips...

I'll probably mark and drill Sunday and maybe even rewire the controls rather than resuing that old 70s wire... stuff is enormous. I've got band gigs both Fri and Sat this weekend, no bike work til Sunday. :(
