'75 CB200T ....NOW actually running

Re: '75 CB200T now wiring and making seat!

Still puttering away. Seat is...progressing. the wiring is getting me confused. I am thinking of putting the pieces out on a piece of paper and letting someone with more knowledge connect the dots. I fear burning something out. Now a question about grounding.
I painted the frame thoroughly, will I need to file off some paint to ground the engine and everything to it? Or would I ground everything to the engine? Can I make a single ground stud to frame and run everything to it including the battery neg lead?

Re: '75 CB200T now wiring and making seat!

Best bet would be remove paint on top or rear engine mount so engine and frame make a good contact then run a ground lead anywhere you want.
It's also a good idea to run either separate ground or ground to fork tube, using throttle and clutch cables for ground usually isn't a good idea ;)

Re: '75 CB200T ....nearly running

Bwahahahaa, the work has started again! After a hard summer of carpentry work and zero time to get this bike going i finally had some days to putter on the thing. I will post soon the wiring things that I have learned and hopefully..... get this sucker running by the end of the week. Things of note: Have spark, have gas. kicked it over a few times and had a nice backfire or two. nothing purring yet though. need to work on the timing I think.
cheers -eric

This is my first post and im using it on this awesome build thread. This bike is gonna be stunning. I may start my own thread on my 200!

Re: '75 CB200T .... most definitely running now!

So all of a sudden it happened. years in the making I finally took an evening or five to try and sort the bikes electrical out and get this heap started. So I charged up the battery after sitting idle for months. I then proceeded to check the tappets for proper clearance. Of which, three tappets were several turns tight and one was a tad loose. I think this was my main problem for not starting during my last attempt in November as the tight tappets were forcing open my valves early or not letting them shut at all and allowing for the backfires. Anyway, I then rechecked for spark. Good. Then timing, good again... checked the carbs for the throttle action, choke and adjusted to manuals specs. I then checked the pin valve and floats to make sure they weren't bound. Next I went out and bought some (all they had was high octane) non ethanol gas and filled her up halfway. watched the gas flow into the carbs. Choked the sucker... flipped the switch.... kicked her over and put put put vrooooom putput.... took off the choke and holy crap IT RAN for ten seconds or so but still.... I was so giddy I had to run up here and update this old ass thread. BUMP btw. Pics, maybe a video and some back story to follow 8)

My todo list just got longer.
Get a learners permit for a motorcycle.
Get some riding gear.
Finish the exhaust, as it sounds like a HD without any muffler attached.
Touch up the paint and polish it.
Lights: Switch, Headlight, neutral, taillight and brake light switch, wiring etc.
tank emblems
maybe a new brake cable and new odometer cable
ALL the things I have been putting off until I know this sucker ran....

Finished the seat. pics of that soon.

Wish me luck everyone.

Sometimes that's all it takes, just hearing it run once to fall in love again.

Right on Bro and carry on!
