79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Going back to the shop for gasket work

check the stator connector and solder and heat shrink it if you have not already

Thanks Hoosier. I have thought about the clucth upgrade. If I could score the parts reasonably I would do it.

OEM gaskets ordered, 42 + tax from local Honda dealer, 96 after taxes for the 2, take 3-4 weeks to get here from Honda, I have the time so no worries there. Need to start pulling shit apart and list what I need to do/buy/fix then order the stuff to be ready for the thaw. I hope to have enough $$ for some upgrades but I should have what I need to get her back to safe and ridable at least.

Well with my lovely wifes help, here she is on the table and ready for winter surgery. Holy fuck she weighs a damn ton. Not my wife, the bike. Going to block her up under the motor to relieve the pressure on the forks. One of the 500lb casters let go. Should have got 1000 lb.

big pigs lol

i spent today pulling all the tupperware and shiny crap

off a gl1100 aspencade i bought to cafe you should see how high the pile of "STUFF" is lol

Lol i bet it is 6' tall. There is a lot of chrome and plastic crap on the 1200 aspencades. Way more than the first or second gens. Post a byild thread, that should be cool to watch.

Edit I read that as a 1200. So the pile is probably 5' tall lol.

you are right its close to 6 its a 1100 but it had the front rotor bling covers the huge front fender wrap around

horse tie down collar and some other extra crap to make up the diff lol

its way easier to walk around now lol

yep i have long standing bad habits

i am 58 and have been amassing bikes since my teens

well, I got a little closer. rad off, bolts out of the intakes, exaust etc. but didn't have the manual pages printed out for removing the heads and of course we ran out of ink so I had to stop. But one or 2 more nights or a saturday and it will be done. Still need to go to Napa and get belts and cam seals too for putting it all back together.

I wonder if you could make a plexiglas timing cover, that timing belt would look sweet if you could see it. I suppose its already been done? I can't imagine I'm the first to want to see that exposed. Lighten up the look of the motor, too.

Scott that has been done and folks also run minus the cover with polished gears etc. I ride in too much crap weather to go without a cover but I have thought of the plexi route and may do it someday.

Cheers

Mike, just a quick question. Was the blown head gasket a very obvious thing? When I checked compression on my GL one side was a lot lower than the other. I'm wondering if I have something wrong or perhaps it just needs to run a bit and the rings loosen up and what not.

john 83 if just one side was down and equally you may want to double check cam /valve timing for the effected side
