Re: 79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Lifes more fun naked
Rear rubber mounted. It was a little harder than the front but I got it. Ordered a full set of pads. If they come in time to put on b4 the weekend i will. But there id enough pad to do the ride safely.this weekend. Cant wait.
Re: 79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Lifes more fun naked
Yes sir. Got the new pads installed and tooke her for a rip. Whooo hoooo she is running and riding great! I need to rebuild one of.the front calipers because i have some.sticking and sqeaking but I can ride her for now. Jill and I can take her to maine tomorrow for our ride and man. New fork oil made a.difference andthe shinko tour masters are way better than the dunlop 404s that the po installed! Thanks Doug!
Re: 79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Lifes more fun naked
Tried to get a pick of her in the sun this morning before riding her to work but the tapatalk wouldn't load the pick, I will take one before we hit the road tonight.
Re: 79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Lifes more fun naked
Glad to hear that she is out and ripping again man!!! a little trick i used when i rebuilt my calipers is after you have the pistons out and the bores clean and then installed. i pulled the bleeder and filled the caliper back up though that with brake fluid... made bleeding out the little air that was in there a snap! glad your out raising hell on the winger man!
Re: 79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Lifes more fun naked
Thanks Joe. I will remember that trick, we just did about 450 miles and had a great ride. lots of fun but the one caliper was squeaky everytime we had to slow down, Will crack inot that soon.
Re: 79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Lifes more fun naked
Still need to get better pics and I want to redo my seat cover but thought I would post a ride report. Since repairs and Maintenance have been completed the bike is running like a swiss watch, Fires up, idles great 0-60 will almost pull me off my seat, 40-80 mph is crazy fast. The new fork oil has the handling much improved on the back bumpy country roads I am riding to and from work etc. I also LOVE the shinko tires I bought from Doug (Beatnic) they are really grippy and I have about 1000 miles on them now in 5 days and wear so far is great. Shinko 230 Tourmaster if anyone wants a big bike budget tire. I will buy them again. I spent my lunch hour doing one of the back roads to and from work home and I was able to corner at insane speeds and angles I wouldn't have tried before all the work to the bike. I can't believe I rode it to WV and thought it was working good, I had nothing to compare it to then and now that I have brought it back to fresh everything it is sooo much better it is night and day.
Cheers and pics tonight as I am going to be working on the 50cc with my son and we may get to the point of test firing it!
Re: 79 GL1000 Project "NudieWing"- Lifes more fun naked
Thanks Joe, I still have to sort the brake that squeals a bit but it isn't dragging anymore so I am close. Going to try and get a new master like you did as soon as budget allows and re-build the calipers and ditch the splitter. It looks like it will cost me about 150-200 to do that so I will ride her as is for now. Unless I can get a good used one with braided lines, we'll see.
