Not just any old r/r, but I know you don't "need" one from from a GS750. I'm sure there's a couple guys on here that would have a much better idea than me. The fellas on GSResources would know for sure.

And I don't believe I mentioned it, but your frame burns my eyes. Looks good though.

Haha, don't worry the Body pieces and everything else will tone it down :D

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/12/11 - Electrical work

Call the guy at Oregon Motorcycle Parts. They specialize in charging systems for old bikes. Tell him what you've got and he'll get you sorted. Can't recommend highly enough.

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/12/11 - Electrical work

do you have a link for that? i would love that info

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/12/11 - Electrical work

PM Crazy PJ he knows a lot about the old bike electrics. He commented that they used to take the system out of the CM400 hondas and slap them in the old suzuki's because it was a better system.

Cheers,

And I like the frame. I like loud green. Was going to paint my tins like that but my wife wanted red and she was still pissed I bought the bike without telling her..... :)

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/12/11 - Electrical work

Sweet! Sent them a email and just waiting for a reply.

Ceder Mills, i use to live right next to them.. a couple times haha

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/12/11 - Electrical work

Got a email back from him, a new R/R from him is around $120, which is cheaper than the $300 one from Suzuki Dealerships.

Have to wait till next paycheck to get that, but i'm going to buy one of these http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/BEC.html for my bike.

Then i don't have to worry about storing the battery and i was planning on removing the electric starter anyways. Now all i need is a kick starter, guess i'll bump start till then haha

Edit

CRAP!!!! i just found out my bike can't have a kick start!! oh well, bump start for life haha

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/12/11 - Electrical work

Frame looks great! Glad I checked in on your build progress! I don't know if I'd pull the starter on a 750, bump starting might get old real quick. :D

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/12/11 - Electrical work

So.. as it turns out i will keep my electric starter..

New things?
  • Engine is being mounted in
  • New R/R bought on ebay for 29 bucks + shipping (total $34)
  • Picking up stuff from powder coater tomorrow
  • Wheel issue (posted below)
  • Finishing up electrical
So that's about all that's new

Here's that video, can you spot anything wrong?
Hmmm.. Something seems off..

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/16/11 - Update

Man, your kitchen floor is f'd up!

Kidding. Is that a mag wheel? Any ideas on what you're gonna do?

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/16/11 - Update

I KNOW RIGHT?!?! lol

There's a guy down south from me a bit who straightens mags, so i'll try to go and see how much it will cost. All the dealerships and motorcycle shop says he's the best. Can't argue with that..

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/16/11 - Wheel F*cked up..

New R/R bought on ebay for 29 bucks + shipping (total $34)

NEW?! or new to you?
Was it an e-bay store or some one time auction?

You need a priest and a little girl who talks to TV static. I'm no expert, but it looks like a poltergeist to me.

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/16/11 - Wheel F*cked up..

Does anyone know if a 77 or 79 GS 750 wheel would fit a 80? They look the same..

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 1/17/11 - New USED Wheel

So, i've started re-assembling it. Progress is slow, and i can't remember where some of the bolts go.. but, i'll figure it out. Here is how she sits now:

This.. is why i need a garage haha

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 2/1/11 - New pictures!

Sorry i've been so slow at updating. But now, i've got some good news, and i think you all will like it!

I will post them on/with the bike tomorrow! Especially more of the rims.. god there amazing! A little touch ups to do on them, but he said he would do that for free.

Re: 80' GS750 - "Monster" - Updated 2/1/11 - New pictures!

Hell yeah, man! HA! Just saw your banner above the quick-reply box... fancy that!

Anyway, this is shaping up to be quite the build. Give me a yell if you have any GS specific questions as I've had an 850G and now a GSX-1100. Different to the 750's by a bit, but not by much in some areas.

Cheers, and keep up the good stuff - boingk
