Re: 82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build - First Timer

where did you get the uni filters? I have the same bike with the same crappy emgo pods on it. Also how are you liking the 712s?

Ya the seat isn't extremely comfortable, its being redone this winter along with everything else. I may have it professionally done, not sure yet
Depends what you don't like. That low a seat will definitely have your knees severely bent (since you didn't incorporate rear sets) - a typical brat seating position that can be fixed by raising the seat (if you want). I have a working theory that seat height for street bikes should be about the same as your pant's inseam measurement for proper knee bend to typical peg height/position. Not enough padding? Add a couple more inches of the same closed-cell stuff before covering. Not wide enough? Create a wider seat pan. Here's a place for some research: http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/. Once you get the seat to fit you properly, all the rest of the road motion will be taken up by the suspension.

Re: 82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build - First Timer

Rebuilding the forks, painting the wheels, new tires, new rear shocks, shaved all the tabs off the frame, repaint, re-upholster seat. I'll post some pictures after this weekend, I should be able to get a lot done.

Wheels just about done. I need a better polish for the lips, any suggestions? The chemical guys stuff isn't abrasive enough.

Nice, was going to do the same to mine but went all gloss black instead. I would use a 3M scuff pad first, then wet sand in stages. Then choice of aluminum polish with dremel or similar tool.

Did you replace the steering stem bearings? Looks like there is no dust plate for the bottom bearing.

Re: 82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build - First Timer

Last batch of parts ordered. New sprockets, chain, ss brake lines, ballistics battery, hydraulic front brake, and some misc. hardware. I would say I'm in a hurry to get it together but the weather still hasn't broken in Massachusetts and we're due a foot of snow tonight. I still have some time.

Re: 82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build - First Timer

Nice work so far, that snow is hitting us about 6 hours after you get it, going to be a big storm here for March.

I think it's just hidden under the bearing. I didn't take the bottom bearing off so hopefully it's there lol.

Gonna hit japbikemikes this year?

Also your problem with reving past 3k sounds like the timing advancer which is on the right side of bike in the side cover behind the stator....it needs to be taken off and lubed up make sure it snaps back nice before you put it back in...you can do this with the motor out or in doesnt matter

Re: 82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build - First Timer

Its a motorcycle swap meet in mass check craigslist search for japbikemikes something should come up

Re: 82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build - First Timer

The forks are rebuilt and on, that was straight forward. I replaced all the bolts on the engine with SS, it looks awesome and was fairly cheap. Z1 sells a full kit for a lot of bikes. Finishing up my wire tuck and electronics placement. I managed to hide everything with minimal cutting/extending which i was pretty happy with.

I'm waiting on one needle from Dynojet as I had on that was slightly bent. Not sure it's going to make a difference but while the bikes apart I'll replace it. Other than that, it's just reassembly and cross my fingers it starts. I'll post some pictures when I get to the garage on Thursday.

Ignition advancer is on the right side. Stator is on the left.
