89 cbr600 Baby Fighter! *Stage 2 Initiated!*

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Thanks for checking in, man.

No new updates except I got the caliper thing all fixed up and rode it before the semester ended. It's too cold for me to ride right now, even though I live in CA.

I got a gas/no-gas mig welder and a ducati monster seat. I plan to throw that on once I practice welding a bit more. I'd like to put fork boots on the front as well but we'll see.

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

rad man, looking forward to see the new stuff.

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

I live near six flags haha. What about you?

I have an update for you guys! (if you're still watching, that is)

Starting DOING WORK putting on the monster seat.

Started to cut and grind off tabs.

I separated the bottom subframe support from the top and I had to bend it out to fit in the seat. I made relief cuts in the to rails because it wouldn't bend how I wanted it to. After I welded them together.

I love how it's turning out! Here I made relief cuts to bend the upper subframe back under the seat. Not quite finished but that's what I got done today. I will be shortening the bottom support rails, bend them up, and weld them to the top rails once I have them at the position I want. I like how the seat is positioned here so I'm going to try and maintain the angle as I bend the rails back in.

Here's another profile shot.

I will also be shortening the stock pipe and tucking it under the peg. I also have to cook up a seat latch for the back part of my monster seat. Electronics and undertray will also be fabbed in the days to come.

A couple new things I'm going to do is paint the levers and rear sets the same red as the tank and also throw on some bar end mirrors. Any suggestions/advice, please don't hesitate to throw it in.

Gotta do as much work as I can because next week I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed :(

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

That seat looks good. I'm not sure about those lower subframe tubes though. They make it look as if something is missing under the seat.

I'd take the lower tubes and cut and weld them at a more extreme angle so that they reach the upper rails at the front of the hump. That would make the back end look more modern and way cleaner, as long as you can hide everything up there.

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Thanks fellas!

With the bottom rails, I plan to shorten them a bit, then make a cut in the middle, bend it up and weld it to the top rails. There's a lot of work to be done!

Been a long ass time! This thread is in need of an update.

Pretty much completed the seat, came up with a ghetto seat latch, and slapped a brand new chain. I aslo got candy red levers. The bad news: I'm going to be selling my baby because I'm in need of money. Who isn't these days? I recently turbo'd my car so the bike will have to go. Besides, Cali weather is WAAAY to hot for a bike. I might get heat stroke lol.

Just sold the bike! Looking back it was a fun project! I'm going to miss riding but I"ll be on a bike again. I want a Ducati of some sort in the future, or maybe a cbr600rr even. We'll see, but I will be back!
