89 cbr600 Baby Fighter! *Stage 2 Initiated!*

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

hell ya drop donw and get an offset, more off the line. i am going down a gear on my FZR

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Running an offset front sprocket sounds simple but you might run into problems with the chain fouling on the frame (depending on how far you need to space it out). If this is the case you will need to machine the rear sprocket carrier, run a smaller chain or offset the wheel in the swingarm (not ideal, but if it's only a few MM you won't notice ;))

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Unless you plan on going stupid wide, you can off set the sproket to get a good bit wider tire on the F2's with nothing but a spacer, hell even the sproket cover can remain un modified! I am not 100% sure but I think you can fit the F3 swinger and make only spacer changes to the drive sproket. I have seen it on so many bikes around here, and I know the tools that ride them around here would not have gone through much trouble for those mods. The tools that go through any trouble all have 8 inches of stretch and rolling on a 300 rear, and the local powersports shop made all the mods for them while thier daddies footed the bill!

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Thanks for the advice guys!

I admit, wider tires is more of an aesthetic addition I'd like to make to the bike. The tires I have are just too skinny for me. I only want to bump up to a 180 rear tire. The cbr600 Hurricane's rear tire can only handle up to a 150 rear.

So I plan to swap the swinger, rim, axle and all the spacers and what not. Then I'll just have to get an offset front sprocket. Sound correct?

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

The F3 has a 180 tyre as standard, so if you get a complete F3 rear end you SHOULD be able to slot it in with just a re-aligned front sprocket.

I haven't done it though, so it may not be that easy ???

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

start googling man, i know on my FZR there are a 1000000 step by step swing arm swap how tos, some guys even make the new dog bones to align everything up. i am sure the CBR comunity is just a huge in the fighter world

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Finally changed the fork seals and cleaned up the fork tubes a bit. I also put my clip ons under the top triple which gives it a more aggressive look and riding position. I love it!

No pictures yet, but they'll be up tomorrow!

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Turned out pretty cool!

Have you thought about doing something with the front fender though? Something about it just seems out of place though. Maybe lower it by a 1/2" or chopping the front off a little bit?

The current fender is just on there for now. The reason why the front of the fender is "lifted" is because it's bent. I've been practicing wheelies and when the fender was straight, it would hit the oil cooler, but now it doesn't anymore since it's bent haha :).

I plan on swapping the fender for a hurricane stock fender and chopping that up and paint matching it to the rest of the bike.

I just bought my coachella ticket a few days ago so no more modding for a while until the funds to mod are there lol. But so far I'm happy with the way it is. But I'm willing to take in any suggestions that you guys may have and consider it for future mods.

Did any of you catch the "LOL" on my muffler? hahah

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Never thought id see an f4 tail on a f1 lol pretty sweet. Btw im sure ive missed it, but what kinda front fender is that I kinda dig it.. much better then the stock skirt. =P

Re: 89 cbr600 Baby Fighter!

Damn, I haven't posted in a long time! The LOL was put on there for shits and giggles haha. It catches a lot of attention. Go figure.

So I haven't done much to the bike yet. I actually considered selling it and saving up for a 2007 r6. But we'll see where I go.

I'm almost out of debt and I will be modding the bike soon come winter. One thing that gets me is that I really want a fatty rear tire (180)! After considering what I'd have to do with the rims, swinger, and sprockets, another issues has come to mind. The cbr600 hurricanes were meant to be ran on Bias Ply tires. Bias ply don't really go bigger than 150, so that means I'll have to switch over to radial tires. I've read that radial tires have advantages to them so I'd like to make the conversion.

So the issue at hand is that the cbr600 community and manual states that I should only run bias ply tires on the bike. However, if I swap to f2 or f3 rims, which I assume take radial tires, will I have a problem with handling? Or will it work considering that the rims I want to swap will take radial tires?

I say go for it. I recently put radials on my 1980 cb900F after managing to find rims wide enough. No ill effects whatsoever, and a more confidence-inspiring ride. I would imagine your rims would be OK to use. I doubt you'll get a 180 on there, but at easily 150-160, and maybe 170 if the chain clears?

cheers
