A few words.

And there is a SEARCH function on the bored that I think could use a good dusting. No one seems to use it.
Probably one of the reasons no one uses it is most forum search functions suck. I often use Google to search this site, especially when looking for a picture or something (which the forum search doesn't do), works pretty good. For anyone that wants to use it, just prepend your google search with site:www.dotheton.com and the result set will be limited to this site.

I also use Google to search this site. The search function up top seems to match ANY words instead of ALL words.

Aight,
I gotta say something about searching, from the prospective of an EXTREME noob. Being that I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing, I have no clue what things are called. So I am often referring to thing
in the wrong terms, such as; front fork holders (recently learned these are tripple clams?), the handlebar holder thingy with the lights on it (still don't know, and I need to find out soon 'cause I don't want the light thing but I still need to fasten down the handlebars), and I recently learned what the foot controls are called, Rear-sets! Also, I don't get to browse the forum for any length of time ussually. I get a minute here and there, mostly while at work.

Let me say something else about why I like this board. I tested the waters here like I do with most forums I join by letting people know I am the five-oh. Yeah, not really excepted in some circles that I share hobbies with. Here, not an issue. And one would think that the whole history of what these bikes are about would make what I do like oil and water. What I get here is that it doesn't matter, we are all just people with a common interest. I have been on some firearm forums where the police are just reviled as the most horrible people ever.

Aight, gotta get ready for work. Booo 12 hour shifts make it hard to work on the bike.

Perhaps we should write a little sticky for a definition of basic terms. Hmmm. I'm not sure if I'm the best person for that task. I've had to look up the proper name a few times in my manual. :-[

THat sounds like a ridiculously good idea. something to add to the knowledge base. I don't have my clymers manual handy ever because its with the bike at another house.

As long as this place doesn't end up like caferacer.net I'm still in.

So can someone give me a step by step on doing my fork seals?

I jest!

Massive dotheton group hug is in order.

Come on, I would be a sad little fella if I didn't have all this bike porn and inspiration.

Oh and the awesome pics of female riders... mmmmmmm

Perhaps get a paper manual thingy...?

or download one like I did for both my bikes, then I print the pages I need, get them all full of crap and grease, then throw them in the fire pit and re-do next time.

On a completely different note, the first time I read a post by Louie I read his name as Swamp Meat Louie and laughed my ass of until I realized the difference. Anyway I am halfway through a bottle of very good red wine and about to watch the A Team and the Expendables! Just because I want to Veg. Got to put the 6 year old to bed first, not quite ready for that kind of action yet.

Cheers all.

We like cops, and guns! You're ok in my book!

p.s. don't bust me for not having turn signals or a loud exhaust

+1 Thank you for the job you do, it can really suck sometimes. I went on a ride along once and saw what a day consists of for RCMP (Canuck feds) and I have a lot of respect for the people who do those jobs. And I have good friends who are 5-0 and respect what you do. Still hate getting tickets though!

Do you want to know what kind of place this is? What kind of members we have? I got a PM out of the blue from a member (Won't name him 'cause I don't know if he'd want me to). It simply asked me if I was doing alright. He'd noticed some of my posts seemed like I might be out-of-sorts.

I didn't know this member personally. I wasn't causing problems for the board (so it wasn't any kind of moderation). It was simply a great guy looking out for someone he'd never met, because he cared.

That's a community with which I'm damned proud to be associated.

Good idea on the glossary of bike terminology!

I do understand its hard to search for something when you're not exactly sure what you are looking for. I always try to scan the thread topics in the related forum to see if someone else has asked the same or a similar question. That works a lot and if the topic isn't exactly what you're after you can often ask your question and get an answer in that thread without having to start a whole new one. But I love new threads, people ask really great questions and I learn something basically daily just from reading threads.

Man glad you're passing this on. I've used this for awhile now and just figured others did as well. Anyhow, its neat to pick a member and see their post out on google. Proof that what we post is for the world to see ::) .

I'm pretty much with Joe on his attitude on answering questions and I know Kiley and some others are as well. I know I try to answer every question that comes through my pm box no matter how many times I've answered the same one before.

hahaha. not aimed at you at all man, not at all. Its just something I started awhile back and Kiley taught me a quick trick to keep things filed and just copy and paste. It was jsut as easy to do that as it was anything else. In all honesty we are probably enabling and making the problem worse ;D haha

Well I think this place is great . Found it looking for something for my cb350 and came back . I lurk more than I post but sometimes that is allright . I learn something just about everytime I come on here . Weather it be about bike or how or a swap meet or just a meet and drink or how close everyone one is when I read about Big Riches baby and how everyone was stepping up to help .I have only meet 1 person so far to bye a part from him and he didn't even want to take my money . Hoping to make it out to have a few beers with the Pittsburgh crowd here soon .

FIX, could have something to do with that avatar and your tag line. hows the prozac working for you man!

I jest man, you're a great personality to have involved! and I'm glad to hear that we're looking out for each other.
