So this is what happens when the neighbors roto tiller isn't running right and your "the guy who works on stuff". The motorcycle bench gets turned into the small engine repair bench =p
Nope its still a giant turd haha. At least it has a Briggs and Stratton instead of a Tecumseh. All that was wrong with it was the spring that connects the governor to the throttle linkage had come loose. Sucky part was you had to all but pull the motor off to fix the stupid thing. Muffler, carb, gas tank, fan shroud and belt guard all came off
Got a little more done. Stripped the old yellowing clear off of the fork legs
Washed, and wiped with mineral spirits and a little etching with some 120 grit, and taped up. How do you like my "all natural" painting stand?
Primered, 3 coats of "aluminum metallic paint, and here is how they turned out. They are OK, not the best, but better than they were. I am no professional painter, but I have to keep telling myself that I want a nice clean respectable rider and not a museum piece.
Some goodies have been showing up at my door the last few days. My wife is great, and she understands that my "bike fund " is somewhat self sufficient (i.e. parting out bikes/welding work on the side), but she did finally ask "how many parts does that little bike need? " haha I got a caliper rebuild kit, stainless braided brake line, clutch cable, throttle cable and fork covers. Hopefully my next box will have everything to get the forks back together so I can have a roller again soon.
Yeah, the old ones weren't horrible, but I figured now is the time to replace them though. Bummer is I get all this stuff in the mail, then have to travel down to Georgia to a wedding all weekend. Balls.
Do you mean crank seals?
I actually just got some. In 1976 and 1977 they went to a 4 bearing crank which was different from the earlier models. Along with the crank change they also (for reasons unknown to me) went to a bastard sized crank seal on one side, which also sits inside the bearing. This means two things.
1. you have to split the crank to put seals in instead of the standard slide the old one out and slide the new one in.
2. you have to order the seals from Great Britain to the tune of $50 because they are pretty much un obtainable in the states.
