Beachcomber's TR1 - now "Cafe-Creme" Boardtracker 'ish

Sussed out the 2 extra holes in the tank [ oil tank area]. As suspected one is for a filler cap, the other for the hand pump. I've spotted several now on other vintage bikes.

I've decided to go with the Shell-Mex "battery cover", as it has a more interesting design and I now have a spare Shell-Mex brass cap for the tank. It'll be painted Cream with Coffee accents - of course !

Even though the Guangxin2189 has the vinage appeal, I do like the Jet pilot look of E02!

HD - couldn't agree more - they've really captured the era with the "Pudding Basin" 2189 - but the EO2 will offer more protection.

Just ordered one of each £65 [ $150??] the pair including shipping !

Now then Vintage style bike demands Vintage style Jacket - yes ?

Spotted this golden oldie on E-Bay - even has the quilted lower back - as the original "Promenade Percies". Mine for £40 [ $90??]. And contrary to popular myth - pre War [2] riding gear was mostly Brown. My Dad had one just like this that belonged to HIS Father.

I've also spotted some Brown riding boots and I'm currently bidding on some Brown ex. German Army leather breeches [ like Plus 4's ].

"Tell me Doctor, am I becoming a little anal about this build ?"

Anal?....Nahhh. Perfectly normal ::)
So the pants, are they going to be the vintage style as well, I am lacking on the proper name, but baloon at the thighs and tight in the lower leg to fit into a high boot? Here before the 30's the men wore similar style pants every day that ended just below the knees, we called them "knickers" but I realize that is a generic term that is still used over there across the Pond.
I really can't find a decent pic to show... think WWI uniform.

But while searching I found this!

Got it in one HD,

popular before WW1 as most motorcycle wear was taken from horse riders !

I came across a pair of the Brown leather pants at the Classic Bike show last year - £25 [ $58??], but I had no interest in them - then !

These German ex-military pants also come in Brown - but they are worsted wool and leather, not quite right.

Wow, is that R-W spot on or what !!!

Here's a pic showing the hand operated oil pump on right hand side of the tank.

Just found one on E-Bay - £10 [ $22?? ] at the moment.

I just don't know if I'll ever be as coordinated, or tough, or ballsy as those pioneers that were willing to hand pump the oil into their engine while riding.

John a lot of these bikes were capable of 100mph - some with NO front brakes !!

Oh yes and check those levers - LEVER throttle [ !! ] advance / retard and air mixture - juggle all that lot on 2" wide tyres. ;)

Man, I can't even walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.

yes - serious respect for these guys - oh yes and that was before crash hats as well ::)

I think I've found a supplier for the headstock to take the TR1 forks and also the rear axle plates. Just need some 30mm tube and we're in business.

Oh yes I won the 1920's Brass hand pump .........sweet or what.

I like where this is heading, haven't browsed new threads on DTT for ages and glad I did now :)

I like it!

I'm having similar fun trying to find Malvern Star bits from the 1930's to 1950's for my 1949 Ducati Cucciolo restoration... and I need to find other bits for the Ducati too...

Fun stuff ain't it?

Pete - you said it.

I undertook this build to prove to myself that I still had some inventive juices flowing - just like back in the 60's. It's becoming the most fun project I've started in quite a while - not that the others aren't fun - I'm sure you know what I mean.

The project started with just a load of loose and diverse ideas, and they've finally crystalised into were I am now - seems to have just evolved without any real plan !

Yes, this hobby of ours IS fun.

Mate, good stuff! I think playing with old stuff is definitely where it's at... so much more fun and interesting than modern stuff that just works out of the box...

I got outbid on a donor lady's bicycle today that would've had most of my needed bits and pieces so I'm gonna havta hunt them down bit by bit... managed to score some 28" wheels which are like rocking horse poo so that's an excellent start :D

I tell ya' I can't wait to see you start getting all these bits and pieces together into something resembling a motorcycle :D

Pete - managed to get some of the pieces together to resemble a tank !!! ;) One small [ !! ] step at a time.

The hand oil pump will be angled back slightly, and now I think the large gas cap might be too big enough - might go with the original cap. Either way, at least I have an idea now of the look I'm aiming at.

Love it! Although yeah I think I'd stick with the original cap, that is a little large...

The hand pump will just be for aesthetics, right?

yes - just for looks, but it will still be operational.

I'm making up some patterns based on this tank but + 20% larger. I'll make it up in cardboard and see what all the parts look like on that - might even end up with a "Sprint" tank and an "Endurance" version !
