Beachcomber's TR1 - now "Cafe-Creme" Boardtracker 'ish

Last one you posted is better to me to BC. I love the shape of that tank and it should sit well over the twin.

Definitely way tidier!

The larger cap distracted from the elegant shape of the tank.

Crazy

I agree - the large cap is out of proportion. Pity as it's an interesting piece. From an 1890's steam engine.
I'll find a spot for it sometime ;)

Thanx for the input guys 8)

You could always use it for the backing of a tail light...

Now THAT'S the kind of lateral thinking I love !!!!

I managed to get my bike trailer out of my garage and parked back down at AC's workshop - which means I can now gain access to the two TR's. That was fun with the recovering broken fingers and cracked wrist - all on my own of course. The mule I brought back from the exhaust guy is actually the donor for Cafe Creme - so I'll bust the power plant, forks etc. out of that before I go off to Saxony [ this weekend - yippppeeee ].

The other donor is for the Vindicator [ 60's Cafe Racer ], and I'll start by pulling off all the unwanted parts for a mass E-Bay sale when I get back.

I'll be able to clear some space in my garage next week an I can lay out all the "swag" I've gathered for Cafe Creme and decide what makes the cut and what doesn't.

I'm currently looking for someone who can braze the La Diamant Francaise tank up, once I've decided on the hardware and taps etc. Taps MUST be ye olde Brass style. I'll be running into the Brass grease gun, modified to be a fuel log - and I'm thinking copper lines and brass fittings for the fuel supply.

The Vindicator is a little simpler as I have a clear picture of what that's going to look like - just have to decide on some of the detailing - such as polished brake plates vs painted - polished or painted yokes [ triple trees ] - black or FO Red frame / swingarm, etc.,etc.,etc. Then I'll gather a big box of prts together ready for the build.

Man I'm lookin' forward to seeing that swag of parts laid out ready... and then the assembly begin :)

And you're right, copper and brass is definitely going to be right for this!

In a year [ again ] of little progress, I managed to win the 1920's Brass fuel tap for the La Diamant Francaise tank. .99p [ $2 ?? ].

I started to sort out all the major parts since my return from Saxony, and will have a definitive "pile" by next weekend.

The "Shell-Mex" petrol can has gone down to AC's workshop to have the bottom 1/3rd. surgically removed before a blast and primer job. The matching 4 eared brass screw cap is also having surgery - the ears will be removed and this will become the second tank filler [ "oil" ]. I have a second Shell-Mex cap for the "battery cover" petrol can. It's a little on the large side [ proportionally ] but I'll live with that as it will allow me to get a GBFO battery in there ! TR1's are notorious bad starters. I can also house all the electrics, ECU, fuse box etc. in there.

The rear section of the MAC exhaust that my exhaust guy "misplaced" has now been found - and the plan is to use that as a basis for the turbo system However, the jury is still out on the use of a turbo vs. 2 x period SU's. Yes I know Turbodog and others will say T...U....R....B...O. , but there's the cost element [ I have THREE projects ! ] and is a turbo too modern for a boardtracker ? Now then, if I could get a Shorrock C75B blower .......................................................

Tap should do the job nicely! Don't fret on lack of progress... my little Duc is just sitting idle... waiting waiting... at least I've been able to get some brakes for the bicycle but a shed is next so I have somewhere to blast and paint...

Can't wait to see all your bits together and get an idea of where this is going though :)

wow, this is going to be one good looking build with all that old brass and copper! can't wait to see progress, well done so far!

PeteGS and others thanx for the words of encouragement.

It has been a really frustrating year, with so many let downs from folk who said "Yea, I'll do that for you" ........... then proceeded to do farg all.

Point in case - the spacer for my BMW Kay Fighter. Until the axle spacer is made I can't finalise the fitting of the K1200S 5 spoke wheel into the K1100 forks, until that's done I can't swap the K1100 forks and 4 pot Brembos in. That's the last part of the mechanical issues sorted out and then the brackets and etc. can be finlised before final tear down for paint / detail.

I even supplied an oversize [ length] spacer with the wheel when the guy took it away ............ that was SIX MONTHS AGO.

I know what you'll all be saying - take it somewhere else ............ yep, would do except the guy has moved his workshop without telling me and it's taken the past 2 months to track him down and retrieve the parts!

Aditionally all 3 projects are being undertaken on a budget that would barely see one built.

I know what you'll all be saying - FINISH ONE THING AT A TIME. ! .........yep, would do except TIME [ as in final time ] IS running down, almost 70 now and I want ALL 3 projects in the play pen before I croak.

........................................................ And so on and so on.

BUT I am determined to get these projects done RIGHT - likely there won't be any more from the Beachcomber stable [ Maybe Max Deubel's homage sidecar outfit ].

Not asking for violins to be played ....just a word to all you next generation builders ........ there is a finite amount of time [ you just don't appreciate it yet at 25 - 35 - 45 ... ] - keep at it and don't hesitate when you say "Shall I buy / build that?" If you're saying the words the answer is "yes".

Easy fix BC, Live until your like 110 and then NP with time ;D glad to see you back at it with a recharge from Saxony. As long as you get something done every little bit that counts as progress.

Cheers

Don't want to come across as a whinger, just felt a bit down with the news of my mate's accident - boy he's a mess. I spoke to his surgeon today, and he said is he wasn't built like the proverbial brick shithouse - he'd be dead.

SO - to shake myself out of it I spent 4 hours ripping into the Cafe Creme donor today, and it's basically ready to get it on the ramp and drop the forks, wheels and motor out. ;D

Couple of bonuses - the PO had fitted a brand new chain and sprocket set in the recent past.

Next week will see the mock up well underway and I'm seeing a guy this weekend who just MIGHT be the man to weld up the frame for me ! I offered the La Diamant Francaise tank up [ for the first time ] - and it looks the canine's cajones.

Also found the elusive Brass Monza gas cap I thought I'd lost and the reverse Brass levers that "I'd put somewhere safe " ::)

Yep, definitely feeling a bit better today ...........

I'm so glad things are looking up for you again mate! We'll burn a candle for your friend too.

Keep at it Beachcomber, all these pics of individual parts is getting me excited to see this thing take shape!!!

Hope the enthusiasm is still with you and everything goes well with you and your friend.

You'll pull it off Mate... I got faith in you
But since I am 20 years younger, you do have a place for me in your will, right?

;)

Again, thanx for all the encouragement guys - means a lot.

Good news today - my pal is out of hospital - discharged himself so he could travel 120 miles to see his girlfriend who is in a special spinal unit. Her prognosis is looking good - as far as they can tell.

I really do feel like I'm getting a proper grip of things now, I'll post up pix of the pile of goodies early next week.

Another excellent day - my pal and his girl are now out of the woods surgically ......just a slow recovery rate, and I started mocking up Cafe Creme to see if my ideas might work.

Set up [ as pic ] with 6" ground clearance, but that won't work [ aethestically ], so I upped it to 9" just before I finished and that looks good and fits in with the 18" and 19" rims.

I really just wanted to see the relationship of the various parts - especially if the La Francaise Diamant tank worked - I think it does.

Turbo looks marginal, mainly from the packaging point......we'll see. The alternative will be 2 x 1/34" SU's, for an olde worlde look. Battery box is a non starter with the MAC exhaust, so I'll have to mount it one side [ silencer side ]. Might be better there anyway as the long side of the "Shell-Mex" logo will be on display. I'll increase the rake of the headstock, mainly to "lose" some of the fork length ! I'll shorten them by around 3" as well - AND the air assist.

Oh yes, the white tubes are just to check clearances, they WILL have the Willow'ish curves.

Being poles from Mr's. B's gazebo, they will bend quite easilly so I can check for the correct curves [ shhhh don't tell her ;) ]
