hay you got some fire anyway ;D braaaap ringa ding dinmg ding have you got some maxima or blendzall in the gas ? the world aint right unless yer bultaco smells of the burning castors ;D

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

So the yellow would be the lighting coil? Green is ground and black is the ignition coil. This is the only magneto wiring diagram that is the same as our Bultaco magneto

Brap is right! Well I think it ran off of starter fluid. Cleaned the Amal but the spark is intermittent. Checked the timing. Need to check the condenser. Clean the points.

I have been reading that the yamaha two strokes suffered from poor ignition like this Bultaco and they solved this by using car coils. I can see why the Bultaco wanted electronic ignition and why they went to two plugs.

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

Used my phone a friend lifeline and called Tim @bultaco.com and that resistor that the ground is going to is for if a bulb burned out and you hit your brake then your brake became a kill switch. He also said that it caused intermittent spark problems. Yellow wire is the lighting coil. He also said a 32mm Mikuni shall take care of most issues. Well at least I got a lot of exercise this weekend lol.

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

Looks like you should only use black wire for ignition?
I would check the solder connections at the generator, they could be cracked or shorting to ground through vibration?
Sounds like condenser is also faulty when warm, they don't last forever
Green looks more like a dedicated tap for brake switch than a ground lead. You can leave everything disconnected except the black to coil

thank you! Going to pull that resistor off later and ground to the chassis.

you would think a magnet and copper wire would be easy enough lol?

Well the Bandido didn't sell so let's make it an enduro and sell it to the Americans lol.

Brap brap brap cleaned points, removed resistor, soldered. 1st start. Tickled the Amal twice till fuel flowed down the case...https://vimeo.com/123035443

hur hur, told ya so ;)
1st kick....great
It will be quieter and run better with the rest of system in place and a decent absorption silencer 8)

picked up a silencer off eBay Monday but somewhere I read it was filled with asbestos...may need to repack it. Have you seen Hugh's Bultaco Place ? https://youtu.be/fDhQ8DURZ60

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

That was a pretty neat video.
I'm kinda glad I ran out of space and cash before I did something similar with CB360's ;D
If the silencer you picked up is after 1977 it will have fibreglass packing, asbestos was 'outlawed' in USA around then

question...do we need to line these fiberglass tanks because of the ethanol?

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

I believe so, they were never designed for ethanol use and use ordinary resin
I would do it anyway as fibreglass will be getting a bit brittle

I just restored the fibre glass tank on my Greeves MX restoration which you can see here http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=60159.0 and might help you a little. I was advised to use KBC tank liner in my tank which I did, I thought that it was a little thin but it seems like it worked ok. I used the Caswell sealer on the aluminium tank I made for the Suzuki and I liked that better.
Here is a pic of the greeves tank.
