Cafe Fabrications Custom Front wheel Project CB750...

I had something a bit spicier typed but it didn't fit the 'feel' I thought we had going here.
I'm disappointed in you guys. All this bullshit over a fucking label. No...I'm ashamed......

I have to agree with my favorite ex-presidentail candidate here.
Why not just go around bitch slapping everyone who does monoshock conversions or usd forks? And we've had both of those on the banner (and it looks like another on the way). The wheel might not be my cup of tea, but I've never machined my own wheel...
I can more than appreciate and respect the work that went into it.
And builds like that will bring more attention to the cafe racer thing, for better or worse. But I can also tell you that one of carpy's bikes is what attracted me to cafe racers in the first place... and it's a bike that makes me cringe when i look at it now.
So take all of that for what it's worth (not much).

WOW NELLY!!! Lets not get our panties in a bunch. We are building this and having fun doing it. DrJ has his opinion as do many others. You should see how they feel about us over at caferacer.net. I don't mind the bike or wheels being critiqued. This for us is about having fun and building what we think is a cool bike. I plan to have it at the Holeshot show in August. So any locals feel free to come check it out. I respect the opinions much more on this site than the other. The people here seem to have intelligent suggestions or opinions.

thanks for the good and the bad

im sorry to admit that this is true for me as well...

gorilla punch did it for me, but i still dig the shit out of that bike. i would actually consider buying it.

I'm diggin what you have going on dude, and I admit, if I had the capabilities to use and have access to CNC, I would. I don't so I use my mini mill and a bench grinder. It produces a part within its capabilities, but rest assured, if I had the capabilities to get more intricate, I sure as hell would. It's all good though, we're an accepting bunch here for better or for worse, and you guys know you have a home here.

I think that you achieved what you were after with this build and you're not even done. If it fit a mold, it wouldn't be innovative, and all of the good shit in the world meets hardcore resistance and criticism. Just look at the early posts from Gretta's thread (not that she's the ninth wonder of the world or anything ::)). Ouch. Good job on simultaneously pissing folks off AND making them love you. That's what makes you a great builder.

gsalter: You're a good kat. As much as it pains me though, I don't think I'll recommend people come here for a while.
You take it well, but I take it kinda personally when I say "Hey this is a great open minded group" and then see this kind of shit. I'm embarrassed.

Overreaction? The majority of replies give the bike and wheel an enthusiastic thumbs up. Only a couple of crusty curmudgeons have been indifferent at worst.

I am pretty surprised as well... In fact this kinda bumms me out. I would be willing to bet no one would have said a word if this was introduced as a cafe/vintage fighter. I also believe no one would given a shit if it had been a Kawi, but since it is a sohc 750, suddenly it isn't "right."

Is it because this guy has some good fab skills that would cause people to hate on him? Seriously, I have seen people on here build some ghetto shit and get more props than what is going on in here. This guy built his own fucking one off tank, for gods sake. There are only a couple other people doing that on here... I really thought that this was the place for this kinda stuff, outside the box a bit, but still enough there to tell what it is.

I personally love it, looks like a good start to the modernization of an older bike, and I bet it will be a blast to ride. Keep up the work, I enjoy seeing the professional quality that is going into this. Sorry for the naysayers.

I LOVE THIS BUILD. Maybe its the exhaust ( mine is similar ) or maybe its the USD front end ( Similar to mine ) or the fact that those Comstar esque wheels are the absolute shit ( shit being FANTASTIC ) hell if it was in my budget I'd be sending payment for a similar wheel set for my contraption....as it is I'm considering parting/selling my T500 and the RD400 to fund an alloy tank.

This build rocks in so many ways....I have a great fondness for a build which captures a true 60's cafe vibe, but this modern take on things is just as spectacular to look at in my opinion....but I'm a Kawi guy so maybe I dont get the whole SOHC purist thing....glad I dont too :p

Keep up the good work fellas and I look forward to any and all updates.

whoa! this got crazy! i think everyone needs a quick "chill moment", so...

everyone stop! go! stop! go!, put your left foot in! put your left foot out!
now quick! do the hokie pokie! turn yourself about! thats what its all about!

hahaha ;D :p

it only takes one guy to douche up a thread man.....though you're probably right

Hmmmmmmmmmm......... maybe it's time for a couple of new sub-forums such as, "CLOSED MINDED", and "OPEN MINDED" or "SAME OLD, SAME OLD" and "RESTIFIED" Restified meaning good old bikes, using bikes of today parts and technology which makes them safer, perform better, and look cool while still retaining their original lines, and good looks.

Life would be really boring if no-one disagreed with anything and everyone liked the same
If your going to throw it out there and ask opinions, that's what you get.
Carry on

Exactly my thoughts. A majority of us aren't in a position to criticize because most of us can't fabricate tanks, seats, exhausts, and CNC mill one-off wheels. He has a level of skill I like to see in a project, a far cry from the shadetree mechanic jobs around here that make me cringe (seriously, put the hacksaw down!).

Are you going to reinforce the frame?

CNC can be more accurate, but, it's main advantage is ability to 'draw' on computer, then make millions of parts all the same.
I have access to one if I learn how to program it (and pay for any breakages if I screw up )

PJ

Yeah that's the big hitter there....plunge a few thou too deep and you're into big dollar repairs, never mind the botched part. I do have the conversion parts needed for the little Jett mill though...one of these days I'll get around to doing it.....

Grant-

I have refrained from comment (until you were done), but I like the mixing of vintages on this build. The Comstar-esque wheels kinda tie in the USD forks and the like on this bike!!!

I say kick ass!!!!

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone has finally said it! I have been biting my tongue for months!!! And some critisizm is a welcomed change around here, as all the "atta boy", "that's awesome dude", and "love it" posts were really beginning to make me want to puke. Change is good. Unlike a lot of the hack job projects here, I like this build

First of all: I like this build. Just want to get that out of the way.

KD - I think I speak for a lot of people when I say you aren't very good at biting your tongue. A pessimistic attitude doesn't help anybody - why not offer suggestions to help instead?

We can't all be mechanics and/or machinists for a living so the "average joe" has to do what they have to do to work on their own bike.
