CB100 Racer

I have a 68 CL 175. Love the little thing but there are a bunch of small stuff for it that I can't seem to find. I'll keep an eye on Ebay though. Good luck with your project!

Won't be running much for electrical on this bike so thankfully I won't have to stash a battery anywhere, just a small capacitor to keep the coils firing. Haven't decided if I'm gonna run a headlight/tail light yet. If I do it will be an afterthought. I got the material today to make the clip-ons. 1 1/2" .065 wall tubing is a perfect fit over the factory fork tubes. Found some aftermarket shocks that are beefier than the OEM ones. They also have a bumpstop on them that will keep my fat ass from slamming the rear tire through my seat. The springs are orange but I plan on getting some black or chrome ones. I had my girl Isabella sit on the bike that will be her's when she turns 16 and I snapped a few pics.

Nobby on the rear is pretty sweet huh?

have you had any experience with shedding the battery on the cb100?
i've got a cb125s with a near identical electrical system, but i'll be running lights and the lot as it's a street bike. i'm nowhere near working on the electricals yet but any info you might have specific to the old honda singles would be greatly appreciated.

btw, i've got a spare set of chrome plated spokes and nipples for the front of a cb100 i might be willing to part with. hit me with a PM if you're interested.

I did get rid of the battery on the 100 using a capacitor. It ran just fine but I wasn't using any of the lighting so I'm not 100% if they will work w/ just the capacitor. Maybe some low voltage stuff? Thanks for the spokes offer but I am relacing a larger hub to an aluminum wheel so the OEM spoke lengths won't work.

Hopefully I'll have the thing close to finished by the time you get to your electrical so I'll let you know what I find out.

Sebatron, You may already be aware but just fyi If you're not running starter you can get away with a really small battery. there are all kinds of options that are sealed and allow you to place them virtually anywhere your imagination can dream up.

i know, but working out what battery to use is a bit of a black art to me. LED blinkers and H4 headlight should end up pretty comparable to normal, but i won't know til i try or someone else does.
no electric start anyway :)

I know what you mean. It makes me wish I'd paid attention in 7th grade science. ???

Looking forward to watching this one come alive. I'll be doing something similiar to a Sr250 that had the misfortune to be minding its own business in our parking lot when a transport rolled over the back end. Insurance paid for another and luckily the only thing damaged was the shocks and rear hoop so now it's going to be my track bike build over the winter

Just interested as to what capacitor you're running there, Gage? Is 10,000 pico-farad in the ballpark? Always thought it'd be champion to make a road-legal small-capacity racer, this project really has my attention.

Sebatron, it might interest you to know that I run my RS125, with full lighting and electric start, on a 12v 3Ah battery. The stock unit was a 9Ah but so far the 3Ah has provided no problems at all. Its a fraction the size of the stock unit and weighs 1270g, as opposed to around 3000g for the larger one. Heres a comparison pic:

Tore the top-end appart last night. Cleaned the carbon off the piston and after some new rings and a new cam sprocket she will be good as new. Still don't know if I'm gonna go through the bottom end.

Glad to hear this little project wasn't forgotten about! Get anything else done to it, or just opened the motor?

Just opened up the motor and got the aluminum/fiberglass hybrid tank built for it. I'll post up some pictures when I get home tonight. My Desert Race that I'm promoting just went to the next level so I don't know how much time I'll be able to devote to the build. I suppose when I get really stressed I'll grab some beer, go out to the shop, and start wrenching on the 100 to blow off some steam.

OK fellas, this thing is now picking up some speed. Motor is all but rebuild (thanks mostly to new parts from Thailand). Just have to lap the valves in and assemble the head and she's done. Front end is done, wheels are mostly done, and fuel cell is complete. After I tig weld all the original welds for some added strength and weld on some tabs the frame will be ready for some epoxy paint. Rear swingarm will be a boxed aluminum setup. All bodywork will be carbon. Updates should be flowing in now.

That will look very schmick once its all together - loving those tiny valves haha.

With the GRP fairings you have there, what will be made of carbon?

Cheers - boingk

Hey thanks guys. The fairings are a rough draft that I pulled from a mold just for the mock-up of the bike. Once I have everything fit and where I want it I'll pull some Carbon fiber from the fairing molds. The front fender and rear fender half, fairing, tank and seat are all going to be carbon. I laid down some reinforcing tig welds tonight. The original honda welding was shit. Hardly any penetration. Now I know that the frame is going to hold up under my big ass.
