CB200T build - nearly completed. see page 8 and 9 for pics

Re: my CB200T build

Great bike, I love the tank one of my favs. Come to Michigan we have the easiest titles to get anywhere.
Cheers, 50gary

Re: my CB200T build

I actually bought a frame from michigan and swapped it out with the one from the bike. Voila- now I have a titled bike.

Re: my CB200T build

some minor progress on the bike. mostly paint work and cosmetic stuff.
the frame and tank are at the fabricator getting the seat made. He is making me a seat pan out of sheet steel using hammer and english wheel. I looked around at a dozen different fiberglass seat and didn't like any of them. Figured I would have my own made.

As the pictures show, I painted the triple trees, the headlight bucket, etc. Also polished the shock lowers and used bedliner black paint on the fork tubes- they were rusted and pitted, so the textured bedliner paint was the way to go to hide the blemishes.

Also did some work on the gauges. I carefully sawed the gauge backing off, and was able to access the gauge faces themselves. Found a guy on ebay who was able to supply some new faces. $25 and I got some nice black faces, which will match my bike colors better.

I have the cut-down front fender, the headlight ring, the kickstand, the gas cap, and some other small parts at the powdercoater. Decided I am going to have the CB200 tank left in bare metal. Found a polishing place around here that will polish the tank for around $150. Now I just have to decide how I will protect the tank from the elements and rust. Not sure if I will clear coat with paint, clear powder, or ??

A couple pics showing the painted triple trees and the new black gauge faces using vinyl overlays.

polished and painted and rebuilt cb200 front suspension. These were a mess when I first got them- probably the worst part of the bike. I think they cleaned up nicely.

Some new rubber for the freshly powder coated wheels.

I like the way the wheels have turned out :)

Thanks, not completely convinced I like the color yet. Wanted it Gold but it came out a little more yellow than expected.

Re: my CB200T build

Yeah I think it's stretching a point to call them gold, but they sure look preeedy in yellow!

Re: my CB200T build

Once in the sunlight, they do look somewhat more gold and the metallic clear coat they put over it is nice and shimmery. But, you are right, it is a stretch to call it gold.

Re: my CB200T build

got a little more work done. Mounted up the front end. Still need to position the clip-ons and raise the headlight up a little. Trying to decide if I will go with some mini turn signals on the forks too.
Don't really want turn signals but they are supposedly required in wisconsin- plus if I ever sell the bike it would be that much easier to say its legal.

I cut the stock front fender down and had it powder coated black. The headlight bucket was painted black using appliance paint and the headlight ring was powder coated to match wheels.
I also got the tank trim and gas cap coated yellow to match. The tank will be polished steel. The headlight arms are from ebay and so are the fork gaiters.

The frame shown in this picture is a spare. I have everything mocked up to it temporarily until my frame is done being modified and painted by the fabricator. I am having a steel seat made and some other mods to frame.
Anyways, here are some pics:

Re: my CB200T build

hi - love the bike - I am smitten with those cl pipes. - I'm working on a cb400n (fairly similar to the 200/400t) and I'm keen to give those pipes a shot!

Re: my CB200T build

thanks for the compliments. I have heard the steelers reference before. Being from Wisconsin, a couple friends have jokingly said I should throw some green in there for the packers.

I agree that the pipes really set it off. Thanks to interceptor for those! Just trying to figure out a way to mount them properly because a large portion of the frame will be cut off - basically everything from the shock mount and rearward.

Re: my CB200T build

Thanks, will update when I can. I am afraid I am stalled for a few weeks as I wait for the fabricator to make the seat and frame mods.

Re: my CB200T build

I'm actually a pretty big fan of the yello... er... gold rims. With the bits you're PC to match it should look pretty sweet.

If you want to make an idea for your bike... Bimota style with rothmans colors...

see page 2 of this build. I posted that same bimota bike in red as an inspiration

Re: my CB200T build

Not much new to report to build. Still waiting for fabricator work to be done- some frame cutting/welding, tank cutting/welding at mounting points, and frame painting.

In the meantime, tried tackling the notorious CB200 front disc brake. Mine was pretty nice to start with and I decided to do some cleanup work on it. got it reassembled and it just doesn't seem to work real good. After reading all the bad things about these brakes, I decided to go a completely different route. Picked up a 1972 CB175 complete front wheel and brake set on eBay for $60. Will break it down, clean it up, and have the front wheel and hub powder coated to match the "gold" that I have on the rest of the bike. It'll end up costing me a total of $160 for the front wheel/ brake swap (includes powder coating) but I think it will be worth it. From what I hear the front disc brake sucks and the front drum brakes are actually pretty nice.

Some pics of the front end minus the cb200 wheel are below.
From the research that I have done, the CB175 should swap right onto the CB200 forks with some spacers to fill gaps.

Oh, and I also sprayed the motor with high temp aluminum paint.
