CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie (Weenie) 2.0 -

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

You already figured it out, all you need is one of the cover screws to get oil filter cover off 8)
It is possible to re-fit the gear without removing filter but is a PITA, I take filter off as it's quicker
I'm guessing you didn't have the pivot shaft pin lined up with the cut out in crankcase?
Check for damage where pin fits, use a file to clean up burrs, it's not really a critical dimension even though oil feeds through shaft into clutch cover

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

Last time I pulled the cap off. I found the o-ring had swollen to un-re-usable. Had to pick up a new one.

It was pretty easy to get the oil filter off the bike... but the donor motor's oil filter nut is a whole other story. I can't even get that SOB to break with an air impact wrench, cheater bar or impact driver. I have it soaking right now and will add some heat and try again before I get destructive...

I think I'm good there, I should be able to deal with that locally...

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

So a little bit of heat and the donor bike's oil filter nut finally broke free with the impact wrench. Got the broken gear replaced. I was able to spin the oil pump with my fingers and it spins and pumps fine so should get oil up to the top end now. Tomorrow my Triumph friends are coming over to get into some more engine assembly on the T120R... I'll try to get the cover back on after work before the guys get here. Then I'll assess the top end and see if I can still run these castings. Only one cam journal looks questionable on the rocker box, but that's a simple rocker arm swap with my other rocker box... need to pull the cam and look at the head journals. Hopefully it didn't get gouged too bad.

Bad move, it's alloy and will expand making it tighter.
Much better to freeze it, I've never had that fail (usually RD350 YPVS generator rotors)

It worked out... so it's all good.

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

After work I was able to assess the damage on the head/rocker box... my rockers and cam survived pretty nicely. Head journals are a little scratched up... not ideal... but i don't think the critical dimension changed. The center journal on the rocker box was pretty trashed... my other rocker box is in really good shape so a quick rocker swap from box to box and I think all is well... I'll assemble the rocker box and set the cam chain tensioner again and do the valves and set the timing and points, valve lash... I've done this some many times all that goes pretty quick. Then... and then I'll be able to check the last carburetor changes and see of things improve... maybe having a lubricated top end will help.... :D

NOTE: If you have an old ass bike... do not pass up on good deals on donor motors... man having mine has saved me $ and time for sure...

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

spray some cleaner through the oil journals on the new head before assembly. Be certain they are clear and clean from the get go.

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

Got the top end together... got it to run... (rather decently from the few minutes I was able to run it... I'm DEFINITELY getting oil to the top end... I know this because oil started gushing out around my cam seal under the advance unit... I've always installed that thing dry do you guys add any hondabond/yamabond around that seal?

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

Is the oil eaking around outside? Or around cam? If you didnt lube sealing surface, the friction of the dry cam spinning on it can heat it up pretty quick and burn off the sealing lip.

Im sorry bud been too long ago for me to recall what I did.

I figured it out... The seal had scooted out of its seat when I was assembling it. Gonna mow before dicking with it any more.

I'm pretty paranoid about the cam seal and always lube it.
Been using a moly assembly lube on cam and some on the inside whenever I fit a new one.
At the very minimum I use a high temp wheel bearing grease.
Probably overkill but I've had a ton of trashed heads before I 'invented' oil system modifications (oil mods actually came about after a ball bearing conversion failed - all the rockers and cam were trashed)

So... leak is gone. I thought it'd be best if I did any further tuning with my exhaust finished... so I got pipe extensions shortened a bit and added the 12" shorties to keep the exhaust friendly enough for my white tennis shoe neighborhood. It's running better than it has on the stock carbs. I tried doing a carb sync... i got it pretty close... I need to rig up an alternate fuel feed though... kinda hard getting in there with the tank attached. Off to the hardware store for other stuff so might rig up a small fuel cup thingy to attach.

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

So though it's running better I'm still having an issue with it dying eventually off idle. it seems to want to idle above 1500 rpm... 1200 RPM and she dies after only a few seconds. 1500 rpm she'll run a minute or two without issue and then bluh.. it'll die. She'll start right back up... 1-2 kicks.

ignition? I'm on my timing marks... could it be my points gap? points are fiddly little shits...

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

You definitely want to support the exhaust somewhere in the middle. I welded a hanger and rubber mounted the mufflers. But, even still want to add another clamp to secure pipes somewhere in between, planning to weld something on the frame tube nearest the carbs.

good news about the carbs. 8)

I've got the pipes supported with the bracket that attaches to the swing arm bolt (look close)... I used a pipe expander to fit my pipes very snugly to the mufflers, used exhaust sealer and had to kinda drive them on with a persuader and have the two mufflers connected together by their hanger studs... they aren't going anywhere. :)

Good, Nice. Also, when I had my slash cut emgo's I opened them up and found only a tiny piece of fiberglass inside. After re-packing they were tolerable under 4krpm. If those can be opened, may want to consider checking the packing they came with.

Now to figure out the mystery idle...

I just pulled out the Sync Gauge again and got the two cylinders within a cock hair of each other... still poops out after it gets good and warmed up. I'm 2 - 2.5 turns out on the air screws. Other than dying on idle it seems to run well...

I still have the after market pilots in, I can still swap out those. Gonna pop off those stock carbs off to do the Pilot swap Peter mentioned. I have new boots for the Mikunis too, I might slap those back on while the stocks are off and see how it runs on those too.

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

so freakin weird. and it will immediately fire back up and go for another minute or two?
Its really sounding electrical. but I just dont know.

Re: CB360 (378cc) Green Meanie 2.0 -

How are you treating the choke? partially closed the whole 2 minutes or are you opening it up at some point during the idling?
