CB750K-Mainely a Dream

Maineiac

Been Around the Block
Beginning, or more so, restarting a project I began about six years ago. A 1972 CB750K. Motor is an 836cc big bore, web grind cam, port and polish head. It's going to be the bike that stays with me, and I'll continue to modify her as my tastes change. I originally had designs to brat her out, but I couldn't really bring myself to do it with such a lovely engine. Below are the beginnings of what I hope to be a great motorcycle.

Built an oil tank with plans provided by SpeedBump here on the forums. Welded in some gussets. Welded on some tabs and a curved tail section. Bought a poop ton of parts.

Hubs that I polished years ago and replaced the bearings. Decided out of the three tanks I had that I like the "F" tank the most. Picked up some new rims. More on that to come ;)

Wheels!!!! Powdered the spokes for an inversion of the blacked out wheel theme. They're pretty.

Wheel truing. The rear was easy, the front was a mo fo. No matter what I did, I couldn't seem to get the hop out of the front. In the process I chowdered the nipple some; they're on order. I'll tackle that task with a six pack, when I return from work in a few weeks.

very nice.im building a 78 750k and was wondering if you had some time could you please put up some more pics of that oil tank?i was planning out a similar shape to go between the frame rails and yours looks really nice

If you check out SpeedBump's build thread, he has all of the measurements you'd ever want in pictorial fashion ;)

Carpy's. The fit leaves something to be desired. I may have to grind a lil' off the shock mounts (mocked up three different shocks and the clevis was too narrow on them all), and the axle is more than snug going thru the wheel. Cool looking, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

Nice build. I was up your way in Falmouth a few weeks ago and was over on the west side in Fryeburg last weekend. Maybe next time i get up that way we could get together and have a beer and admire your work ;D
