Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER! (DONE..for now. VIDEO!)

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Ive used em' on friends VW builds in the past. The will take some of the higher notes out of the exhaust, but they arent going to help with tuning. They are cool though...

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Again, you guys with the same avatar are confusing me.. ???

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Any luck on finding starter blocks, I havent gotten around to actually finding who has em for how much. I still dont know what actually happens when you remove an electric start. I know where it is on the 175. At the front. Its threaded on with a few bolts. If you just take it off & plug the hole http://www.batemanracing.com/ (hole plug) does the kickstart still work? If its just that easy Im gonna try it. Is it?

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

When you remove the starter on a 350 (or most bikes i would guess...) theres still allkinds of gears an dbits that can be removed. CAN BE... You dont need to, but if you want to than u need to split ther cases.

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

When you remove it there is a chain and cog inside the left side cover that can be removed. You don't need to split the cases just take off the cover. You will then need to plug the hole and bateman sell those as per your link. I just used the end of the starter that come from there and made an ally plate to block it off. Kick starter still works as it's not part of that mechanism. HO HO HO

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Thanks hotfunk. Hopefully this info helps THE TIGER build too. Have pics?

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Sorry for no updates: vacation starts today so there'll be alot of activity in the near future.

As for start block-off plugs, Ive seen a bunch of guys use two washers on either side of the hole, with a bolt through them drawing them tightly together. I think Rocan? may have done it on his bike.

Like this:

[--Case--]

Something like that.

I still havent decided if I want to keep my starter or not. If I lose it I will be doing the block of this way.

That bateman plug is sweet though.

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Thanks. Ill have to dig into it to really understand.

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Here ya go bro:

Scroll down about midway through the post youll see how Rocan did his starter block-off.

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

right on. That looks good. Id rather do that then pay out the $40 for batemans.

Neat. I just took mine off. Havent taken of the left sidecover yet though to take out the cog. Easy peazy so far

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

He actually uses an expansion plug for engine blocks as a starter delete... You can find them at any auto parts store. There in the "HELP" section (next to the paint in AutoZones).

Re: Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

HEY FELLAS!!! Super sorry for the downtime - Had to get a bunch of shit done on the dream -chasin' front! Im happy to announce that I will be working on remixes for a posthumous Tupac album that Eaglerock is doing. Should be awesome.

As for the BIKE! Yes!

Well, since I last posted the following has happened (pics to come tonight):

Alex and I brazed on the VW mufflers, and wrapped the pipes.

Whilst installing my headlight brackets that id FINALLY settled on, I snapped one in half by giving it alittle too much encouragement.

I disassembled the entire front end of the bike, and resealed the forks. The seals were completely gone, and the oil had most obviously never been changed.

I polished up the tree, polished the fork arms, and the lowers.

Polished up the front brake drum (planning on drilling it tonight with my old man).

Polished the sprocket cover (drilling that as well)

Removed the magneto side cover and cleaned/degreased it.

Replaced all of my cables, including the speedo and tach.

Fabricated a pretty cool internal fender out of sheet.

Installed new shoes all around.

Installing my UNIs this week, as well as the replacement headlight brackets.

OH and how could I forget - I finally glassed my seat cone.

Ill post pics to prove all this tonight dudes. Im pumped though. Im gonna get to ride this thing soon!

The engine is gonna wait a few weeks until I rip around on The Tiger out in the cold. As soon as Ive had enough, Im gonna rebuild her. But its very likely that by the end of this week, she'll be on the road.

Still planning to do a full teardown and rebuild/repaint in the spring time too.

Im sure youve all noticed - But this build aint fancy - Its basically a dry run for what Im gonna do in the spring time - which will be a complete teardown - paint, and restore. Right now Im just making this thing WORK well - and look badass. Its gonna have some character but all the important bits will be new, and functioning great.

We wrapped the exhaust too but I cant seem to find a pic. Were hoping to have her fired up again this weekend possibly!
