DO THE TON Mama Tried 3 - Alabama 2012 - New and Improved with event pics!

Yeah that was a great ride last year. But from where im booked, I would have to ride 15 minutes back toward b ham to ride the 20 minutes back toward barber to ride with the pack in the morning... hmm ::)

Sounds like a win-win to me. 8)

So... you're bragging? :D

I'm pretty sure that's the route we rode each morning - here's the video :) When my speedo needle is at 12 o'clock that's 80 MPH.

This is with the boys from Dime City (I'm chasing Jason on his hopped up CB750, me on my stock XS650 - this year he doesn't have a chance ;) ), Loaded Gun etc.

Going to be epic in 2013!

Yup - just watched the vid with the map - you'll see us go through the parking lot and shopping complex (Cahaba Mall) by the Golds Gym etc. to get to Colonnade Parkway vs using the main drag. But from that point on it's basically one road all the way - just stay to the right at that first fork in the road and zoom to Barber.

According to Google maps, the route needs 27 minutes. According to the video, it took us 15. Google Maps must be wrong about the speed limits on those roads.

I think google maps is pretty accurate as far as speed limits go on that route... but where google has trouble is when the average speed of the bikes traveling is say... 60-100mph in a school zone... not that any of us would know from experience of course :)

And redbird, bragging? No, im actually not sure how im gonna juggle it this year. Ill have my wife, baby, and dad's wife likely driving the care around, and myself and my dad on bikes. And it will likely be his first time on two wheels since his crash back in may. So I may not be hooking up with the pack for the rides if he's not 100% back. Oh well, im sure ill all y'all at the clubhouse.

Well that sux.

I didn't see the updated info on the hotel switch. We're booked into the Hilton Garden Inn, Liberty Park instead of the Perimeter Park. As of this afternoon, there are NO rooms available at Perimeter Park with 2 beds. We're staying put at the Liberty Park. :p

The good news is that it's only 3 miles away, so we should still be able to hook up pretty easily! 8)

Whew!! Scared me there Tim! :D

Sorry for the lack of clarity on the hotels - looks like a nice ride could be had between them as it is :)

Honestly last year we were up at 7 for breakfast and on the road by 7:30, and then back to the hotel after whatever dinner arrangements we had sorted (gotta have another BBQ night at Kiley's). So being in the same hotel isn't that big of a deal unless people want to get up with us for the early morning ride to the park and hang out before the crowds set in.

I noticed the website says gates open at 8am this year. Im pretty sure last year it was event ppl only at 8 and public at 10? I dunno, but I do know its havoc to get there after 10!

Saturday morning was hell last year. We didn't even get there that late but we spend nearly an hour waiting in traffic to get in.

I think Barber's made note of the delays last year and are likely making plans for this year. Attendance was through the roof in 2011 and they're expecting more in 2012 and will hopefully be prepped for it.

One positive for getting up early ;)

We would have gotten there earlier last year if we didn't have to keep stopping every time Gretta died.

;)

1st and only time my bike has ever overheated was in traffic waiting to get in Saturday. That sucked dick and applesauce.

So, is Saturday the busier day at the track, rather than Sunday? It was quite noticeable that Mid-Ohio was MUCH more crowded on Saturday.

It certainly seemed that way to me. I think a lot of people leave Sunday morning to head home instead of going back to the track.

Haha! Sad thing is, with the shop build going on, i still haven't torn the top end down and fixed the valve seal that leaks and keeps oiling the cylinder causing
The plug to foul. And yeah, i have heard that they're gonna get some different ways odd access going this year to deal with it. I'll be curious to see how they handle it considering there's only one entrance...???

Mad science bitches!
