First build ever FINALLY done . Project Copper complete 1978 cb550k

Chrome bubble visor; nice choice. I have one on my lid as well. Works well for cuttin down the suns blinding rays. I like the bare metal and copper look you got goin on. Perhaps you could maybe get the Honda badges chrome plated?... Assuming you can copper plate aluminum.. Im not too familiar with metal plating.

Just a suggestion, that bike would really benefit from a rear fender between the frame rails. I see a small curtain at the top of the frame tubes, but dirt and stones will get past that and into the stacks.

On race bikes, we have nothing that isn't functional and you will rarely see a race bike without a decent rear fender tucked in there and after a race on nice clean race tracks, there are still stones and other debris on the top of the gearbox.

I really don't get the naked middle when it's non-functional. We fit our batteries etc in the middle to improve handling, reduce weight and to be more accessible.

I understand your point but you can make the same comparison to any bobber and say the hard tail is ruining the handling of the bike compared to a race bike. I'm not going to speak for my brother but I know he had a clear vision for the final product of this bike and its purpose and it didn't include a rear fender. In my honest opinion that is an ok thing when you consider where and how this bike is going to be used.

+1

wow this thread amazes me. I am a chef too in nyc and I've had a kz440 for the past four years I've barely been working on. I have a deep deep love for copper from the kitchen (Mauviel!). My room is decorated with copper things, I love copper with dark hardwoods.

I contacted a company out west about two years ago regarding copper plating a gas tank. I'd like to get that and several other things plated and have mostly everything else be black. What kind of prices did you pay for the copper plating and did you find it local or how did you go about finding places to do it?

Your bike is very tastefully done, I tip my toque to you. Which restaurant are you working in and where?

Rubbish. WTF has a bobber or a race bike to do with anything. That logic is seriously flawed. With all due respect. The point i was making really wasn't meant to be obtuse. We race on clean tracks and still manage to pick up stones and dust. On the street the risk is much higher.

Why is that people keep insisting on building bikes that are less functional than stock and others that don't know any better keep following the terrible example because the wrongly assume that the builder they are copying mucht know what they are doing and yet that is so obviously not the case.

It isn't my bike and I really don't care how you use it to get your 15 seconds of fame. What I do care about is our younger or more impressionable readers who get the wrong idea about what a cool bike is all about.

Agreed. I love the clean wide open look below the seat, however no one wants a grenaded engine from road debris getting in the stacks.
