FT500 Street Trackerish thing

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

installed a circle headlight... i have mixed feelings. I think it would look MUCH better if i had a small speedo and not the huge gauges.

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

Better picture. Just shows even more how badly i need new gauges.

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

Whoa, yes the gauges are horrid with that light, that being said, get rid of them and the round light will make the bike look much nicer. Actually, the gauges are horrid no matter the light ;D

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

agreed. i am trying to source a cheap universal speedo. any ideas?

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

Mikes XS has them and I think the cable ones are the right ratio for Honda's and yamahas. Also DCC. And of course Ebay. But you could likely get a used Honda if you don't care about the mileage shown. pretty sure all the honda bikes use the same ratio and it is the hub drive that differs from bike to bike.

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

I did a search for a more naked Ascot with the stock tank. Most customs I found have been swapped it out.
Did find this one even if it is a VT instead of a thumper FT...

Electronic bicycle speedos are cheap and small,
and most of them have more than sufficient range (2 tons or so)

Best regards

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

thanks for the response. i actually found a speedo i might use for now.

Also, order rear shocks this week. I am thinking a half inch or full inch taller. Is this too much?

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

Haha that dash looks dreadful. Take the sledgehammer to it. I've always liked the FT500 except one thing: no kickstarter.

Re: Ascot STREET Tracker

kick starter would be nice. i think it would look sweet without those gauges but i need to find at least a speedo before i take this one off.

I am back with the ugly bike! Except this time... its even uglier!

I sold this FT500 in 2011... fast forward to a couple weeks ago, I sold a non running cb360 and bought this running and driving FT500 for a hundred less than I sold the CB for. Rode it the fifty plus miles home. Now fast forward a little less than a couple weeks ago, in my search of finding a parts bike I found my original FT500 (the one I started this thread for) but it is rough! Spray bombed everything flat black, missing body panels, blah blah blah.... oh yeah, and no title. I still want it because it was my first one and its still a good parts bike... well see.

Anyways... Here is my new project...

It is missing the right side cover and other body panels are cracked or broken, doesnt matter as I am making new body panels. A seat is on the way from Von (Dock) and a circle headlight. Mini gauges are soon, I swapped out the bars already, in the process of rebuilding brakes. Tires are also coming soon, thinking of shinko 705s?

I'd STILL like to find one of these! Interested to see what can be done. 8)

Lots can be done! My biggest hurdle will be installing a kickstart but I know its been done

Rebuilt the rear caliper after it froze up on me on my way to work... that was fun.

But now I notice my rotor is rubbing the brake caliper mount... any ideas why?

I was having the same problems too on my cb900 after I rebuilt the calipers. Also my caliper mounts look similar to yours too, I wonder if they are the same. A number of Honda bikes from the early 80s seem to share a similar braking system.

And cool story on ending up with the same bike after you sold it. Sounds like you made money in the process too.
