Yeah i've been kicking around the idea. Thinking about cheating and clearing over, cover your ears everyone...Vinyl. Would like to find someone to cut me out some lettering too. Was thinking about having 'GL 1000' cockeyed across the back of the tail
Oh, and in case anyone is looking for exhaust ideas for their truck. This was parked at Tractor Supply this afternoon:
I've cleared over vinyl. It can be done. But before you do that, look for someone who can cut out your script on waterslide. It's much thinner and much nicer to clear over. They can do it in any color, and there are plenty of online shops who can do it for cheap. That's what the decals on the 400 are.
Kiley that's great information. Wonder if any of the vinyl guys on DTT use that? I'll have to go ask the DTTers somewhere.
And Rich I'll check that place out for sure. I've known I'd be needing it but the temps have been so freaking cold it's been put on the back burner and paint day is sneaking up on me
I've got something like this in my garage. Got it with a pile of old flat track racing wheels/brakes. It might be Grimeca - can't be sure. Will get it out tomorrow. If it's of any use, consider it yours.
They both could be cable actuated connected with a yoke. Would be a matter of making a mount bracket that mounts the master and retain the cable, then have the hydraulic line made and the cable made. I'm not sure if I want to get into all that but it would be a pretty cool piece. Something I'll have to think about.
Tim I greatly appreciate the offer. Very kind of you sir. I'll kick around some ideas and get back to you if that's ok.
Found it - I have no idea what condition it's in - will for sure need a rebuild I think.
Still has some old caliper attached with the braided line. Not sure if a cable would have enough leverage at the short end of the lever, or offer enough travel at the long end.
I was looking at some of these for my 400f if I can't find any used cbr controls. They look nice and for the price they don't seem too cheap.
I have a question about what happened in your tractor with the rotella T oil? We use rotella in all the heavy equipment at my dad's boatyard never any problems. Even in our Kubota tractor.
Other than that, I'm excited about this bike and I'm glad it's moving quickly! Give me hope I can get things done this smoothly one day on mine..
Did you leave off the word "TANK"? Do you use that because 2 stroke oil clings better than other coatings for storage? I have had good experiance with Marvel Mystery Oil... plus, I believe it also cleans a little while it's in there as well as whats not removed lubes the piston slides in the carb tops.
I doubt the bikes will ever see the conditions my tractor sees however, after talking with Junior the Castrol sounds like a better choice. The tractor is operated in extremely harsh conditions for extended periods at a time. Its the only tractor I use in the hay fields so operation time is 10-14 hours non stop. Many farmers here move between 2 and three tractors to keep from unattaching and reattaching equipment. Also really saves wear and tear on one tractor. The conditions are extremely dusty. At the end of the day the radiator is so clogged it runs near over heating. I absolutely have to blow both the radiator out and the air filters after each day. The tractor is also ran at high rpm all that time to drive the PTO. Im taking care of 5 farms so the poor tractor is getting abused. However, I'm extremely religious cleaning the radiator and air filters after each use and about changing the oil and air filters even before recommended.
With that said, one morning this winter I started the tractor and after a couple minutes of running it began knocking extremely hard and loud. Come to find out it was due to oil starvation because the journals were clogged. Did an oil change with an entire bottle of seafoam, let it run for about ten minutes and it cleared it right up. I've since switched to synthetic at the recommendation of Junior.
Like I said I don't think our bikes will ever see those conditions however, I think the Castrol is a better choice. Hopefully Junior will chime in and give his .02
Hoosier you're correct I left off 'tank'. haha my 'stupit' fried brain and sausage fingers letting me down (sounds like a dinner special down at the hole)haha. I was thinking the 2 cycle oil would cling better especially since I didn't know how long before adding gas or a complete fill up. Not sure though never tired it. This will be the first time to clean a tank and not seal it. Gonna give it a try over sealing.
In other news made a purchase. I found a master cylinder/brake combo. Talking to Kiley come to find out a friend of his has the same one and said it works well. Can't pass on the price especially since this is a low dime build

Troy, let me know what you think of that when you get it, I am not happy with my replacement and need to change it out. If that one works I'll grab one too.
