GS450 "Sport" - Done!

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Good stuff Rich! Man I remember seeing mine in bits like that... I've gotta get stuck into something again, I hate this waiting around! Hahaha

I remember seeing those ridges in the outlets and thought nothing of it... maybe I should have gotten them out too hey? Oh well...

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Thanks gents!

Pete, I inquired about those lips on the GSR, and 1 person said they were there to increase intake velocity (something like that......I just woke up). But I had never seen anything like them on any other bike.....ever. Remember that GS450 I took pictures of at Barbers (full fairing, side car, etc)? I asked the owner about those lips and he cut them out as well.

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Very interesting Rich! And inlets... yeah why did I say outlets? Meh... will be interesting to see if you notice the effects!

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Yeah let us know the results Rich. I am curious. Also wheres the pic of the full fairing 450 with the side car? Your holding out on me..LOL

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Problem is, I've never ridden a stock 450. And with any luck I'll be getting some hopped up carbs for this motor......but those little lips just didn't make any sense to me.

I'll see if I can get those pics for you Gary. I forget where I have and have NOT posted them. You'll dig the bike though, it is sharp......

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Thanks Rich.

I keep looking at the viper 1/4 fairing and others and talking myself out of it. If I get this thing running right I may end up having to take the plunge sooner or later. Love me a vintage looking bike with the 1/4 half and full fairings. Just adds a look you don't get with the raw bike.

On the other hand if I get this bike running right for next spring I could always find me another bike to rebuild with a full fairing..Yeah thats the idea I think I like most. I could always find another cheap build to try and slide past swmbo..LOL ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Here ya go Gary - I posted pictures of it in this guy's build on the GSTwins forum:

It's a Honda CR93 full race fairing from Airtech (have to scroll down a bit....):

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Reassembly begins.....

Aaaaah I remember seeing that somewhere now Rich... maybe on the Barber pic's thread? Can't remember...

Looks like a good job for sure!

Be interesting with the brake on the sidecar wheel though... wanna have that sync'd nicely or hard breaking could get very interesting!

Re: GS450 "Sport" - DOHC'ed goodness

Yeah Pete, I didn't ask about the sidecar brake......I would think it wouldn't even get hooked up. That could get pretty scary!

So I got around to painting the head the other day:

Went from this:

Re: GS450 "Sport" - DOHC'ed goodness

Oooh very pretty!

Interestingly enough getting my head and barrels wet blasted ended up with almost exactly the same finish...

Re: GS450 "Sport" - DOHC'ed goodness

Nice work Rich, it's almost done, what are you going to do for the rest of the Winter?

Re: GS450 "Sport" - DOHC'ed goodness

Funny you mention that Maritime......I keep hearing this term called "relax". I might want to try it sometime. :)

Re: GS450 "Sport" - DOHC'ed goodness

Naa it's no fun, just go over and help keep Mike on track on his builds if you run out of bikes ;D

Re: GS450 "Sport" - DOHC'ed goodness

Ha! I do have plenty to do on this one though. It's nice because there's not a lot of "custom" work. So this is what it's like to just bolt a bike back together........And besides, there's some small stuff to do on the GR as well.

Re: GS450 "Sport" - DOHC'ed goodness

Yep, gotcha. It is going to be a nice little scoot when you finish for sure.
