Hailwood Honda race rep agh!

I've read your thread from front to back an enjoyed updates on the bikes progress. Great to see it finished Yorkie. I bet it attracted some attention on that ride out, it looks superb!

Cheers guys felt like it took for ever, and at last the van is hired and ferry & camping booked for the classic TT yeah, not bad for a novice, Desperate to get some decent running vid of the old girl she does sound mega, been fitting new coils and condensors today trying to get her gremlins sorted new coils didn't work as good as the old ones so swapped them back again !!she doesn't want to run without plenty of choke ??? gonna go thru all the steps of first tuning & timing hope that might sort her otherwise its carbs off again agh also made extra filter for carbs incase it was crap getting in the velocity stacks tho there is a mesh filter in them already

Here's a couple of pics what i've been rambling on about the extra brass mesh filters I made up also my boots have been rubbing the exhausts so put a bit of wrap round to stop scraping the paint off also my pilot screws are out at 2.5 turns out so it will run without choke never had that before any idea's fella's ??? and the condensors think I gonna have to go with electronic ignition instead of the oldtime points set up

Are the points, plate & condensers OEM or aftermarket? I know I've seen a few reports of people having tuning trouble with Daichi parts, and in some case the switch back to TEC parts fixed the issue.

You could be right, think the condensors are after market and the points, even tho they came from David Silver Honda spares the guys are supposed to be the best in UK, only other thing is to go for electronic like dyna s or pamco types she did seem to run very hot before she played up even toyed with the idea of fitting an oil cooler set -up like off the cb650 nighthawk ???

Yorkie, I'll be over there from the 19th to 27th. Would be cool to ride round with both our bikes :)

I'll be parked in the main paddocks, but I'll message you with my mobile beforehand if you like

Sound mate ime sailing out from Heysham on 22nd ime camping up at union mills well sleeping in the van haha look forward to it mate

At last got to the bottom of (fingers crossed) the gremlins that showed up on my last ride out, found the starter motor was grounding out when I pressed the start button ,how could I tell Cos the clutch cable started to smoke all the lube off n glow red hot ??? so will use kick start for now as the commutator is shot ?? so next was the points they checked out ok but changed out the condensors as I had some in the back of me shed also coils, after swapping out coils I put the old ones back as they just as good, tappets set spot on too so what was making her play up so much ? CARBS so stripped em down cleaned the life out of them put back together resynced them and !! still no go ? AGH, still coming up as carb prob so stripped down again did all the usual float height bowl gaskets jets passages you name I cleaned it, one thing I did that a lot of you guys mentioned I took of the inlet ports from motor and cos earlier in build ide polished them out I decided to rough them up again as you see in the pics then made sure they sealed up ok, then re-fit the carbs really checking the boots for any vacuum leaks so far so good everything seemed ok good batt new fuel larger fuel lines 8mm internal dia still struggling running on choke only. Used every position possible for idle / pilot screw only thing left was the gaskets on the carb tops so put new ones on and BINGO the old girl fires up straight away??? must have been drawing air in maybe ?, idles perfect, timing is spot on with strobe responds to throttle great so ime a happy bunny and ready for the off to the classic TT hers a couple of pics and hopefuly a vid of her running after tearing me hair out (well if I had any) haha
